I own a 27-Inches iMac, the so-called "Mid-2011, Sandy Bridge" model.

The specs: Core i5 (quad) 2.7 GHz, 8 Gb of RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 512 Mb of GDDR5 VRAM. Oh, and OS X 10.8.2 ...

I've played a bit with the advanced video settings (both from the game launcher window and editing the user.ini file). I've followed geforce.com's "Witcher 2 Tweak Guide" and tried a few tweaks I've found here and there (IMG, Steam, GoG, Mac Games Store, ...).

Well, I'm a bit disheartened ... I can barely play the game at 1280x720 with very very low settings ... 15-17 FPS.

A lot of details are lost this way and I find it hard to play the game (I'm getting older and I don't have a good sight).

I understand that the RED Engine is pretty demanding but ... I was wondering how many Mac models will be able to play this game in the coming months. Even the (upcoming) new iMac lacks a decent GPU (only the $1,999 top-of-the-line model will offer a rather interesting BTO option: it will be possible to choose between GeForce GTX 675MX and 680MX). I hope that Virtual Programming will be able to shorten the distance between the Windows and the Mac version of TW2 one of these days. But I won't hold my breath.

In light of the above, I really think that the XBox 360 port is amazing (especially given its age).

Don't get me wrong ... I really appreciate CD Projekt's attempt and I'm glad they made the decision to port it. It's mainly Apple's fault (and maybe VP could have done e better job).

I can say that i found a solution ! i upgraded my OS from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
So i was able to install the last drivers on nvidia cudo (i dont know if that is necessary though ) but also probably the drivers of my graphics card were updated too.
The thing is that now i can play The Witcher 2 without any problem on ulti graphics i justa have disabled the property UberSampling in advanced options.

i hope i helped you
Thx for your tip, but it does not help with rMBP

If you have a 5870 you'll have no use of those drivers and it's NVidia only and 5870 is made by AMD.
The MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0 from today solved the problem for me! My MacBook Pro retina with the 650m runs the "High spec" setting at 1440 x 900 now.
Before the update even the "Low spec" setting at 1280 x 800 was too slow.

So indeed no update for TW2 was needed, but one from Nvidia/Apple …

UPDATE: It DID work great, but after using my computer for a few hours I started TW2 and it was still unplayable slow. So I restarted and tried again: same result. The fabulous speed i had directly after the update was gone. :(

UPDATE 2: I reset the SMU and now it works again! tried it with mail, safari, calendar and iTunes open at the same time and it works.

To conclude: for me (15" MBP retina, OS X 10.8.2) the problem was solved by
1) installing the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0 as found by the App store app.
2) resetting the SMU

cluthz: Also the port totally locks down the system while running. You cannot minimize game or even tab out! If skype calls or I have to check my mail I have to shut down the game!
Anything new regarding this? I loathe to quit the game every time I have to do something else on my iMac.

apart from that, it's running ok in 1980x1080 on my 2011 iMac with a Radeon 6970M.

I have a Macbook Pro 15" mid-2012 non-retina with a 2,6 GHz Intel Core i7 CPU, 8GB ram, normal HDD and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB GPU. I have the 1680x1050 resolution option. It runs Mountain Lion and is fully up-to-date as far as OS updates go.
When I try to run The Witcher 2, it barely manages with Low-settings at 1200x800. I've only played a bit through the tutorial though. The problems are most-noticeable through the mouse-lag in the menus and tutorial windows. Is this supposed to be normal?
This machine is the newest and most powerful Mac laptop in existence at the moment, so while it isn't a gaming machine perse, I had hoped to be able to run it at native resolution at medium settings, but alas. As it stands now it's not playable at all.
I have also tried the SMC reset thingy, with no luck.

Is this kind of performance normal with my hardware configuration? :(
I have a 2012 MBP Retina as well (fully loaded). My game is running so badly even at the lowest settings.

I have installed the Cuda (or whatever) driver from NVIDIA, have reset my SMC, and have nothing running in the background while I'm playing.

The lag issues are killing me. It's weird because it seems that just a month ago I was playing D3 on super high settings without a hiccup. Hopefully this issue is addressed soon by someone because I can't fix it.

UPDATE: If you bootcamp it and update to the latest NVIDIA driver (310.70), the game should run smooth. Mine is working fine so far. Running it natively on Mac is still impossible, though.

When you run it in Bootcamp, what settings do you use? Could you post a screenshot of your settings window (if you changed stuff in the advanced settings). And did you change the mouse sensitivity?

I think the problem is inherent to ALL Mac users with this game. Choppy game play at any resolution or screen res, lagging all the bad tendencies you only get in a nightmare playing video games. I have a Mac Pro with 16 GB Ram, 8 core dual 3.0 quad processors and 2 TB of Velociraptor disk space and Witcher 2 runs like absolute garbage. I ran Blizzard games on this machine it was a dream. This was so bad, the first day I got it I requested a refund and they told me tough, I bought it so deal with it. I'll never buy another game from this rip off site EVER again. I feel bad for any Mac user who got sucked in to buying this CRAP!
After initial success (see previous post) I made the experience that this game simply does not run smoothly on my brand new Mac Book Pro retina (in 1440x900).

Sure, I can restart my computer and run TW2 as the only program every time I want to play. But honestly, that shouldn't be necessary with the kind of computing power I have here (quad core, 16GB, SSD, 650M).

So for now I deinstalled TW2 altogether (SSDs are limited) and am waiting of a) a Mac OS update and b) an update for TW2. Then I will install it again. But for now it's simply unusable. What a shame …
Virtual Programming is a shady company at best. Notorious for their draconian DRM.

To any of you fine Mac users:

You wouldn't happen to know if the Witcher Enhanced Version is any better on the Mac would you? I didn't want to go ahead and purchase it only to run into the same issues as I have with Witcher 2. Any advice you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Witcher 1 works perfectly on MacBook Pro retina, and iMac with 10.8.2 os (never had any framerate issues etc).
It's a massive difference when comparing the two titles. ;)

Hope that helps (tis a great game btw).
Hi guys,

had same issues like you have on my MBPr - game was totally unplayable until yesterdays update to 10.8.3, since then game works like charm. Give it a try ;-)
