Do one always have to redownload these when reinstalling the game? What if there's no internet connection?

No you download them once and your done. Send them an external hard drive , another hard drive, burn them to dvd`s your choice. After installation just run the game from the witcher 2 exe found in the witcher 2/bin folder and never be bothered to update the game.

I think they stick around somewhere or another? Maybe not. Either way, there are offline patches at en.thewitcher.com/community/ (scroll down to find them) that you can back up. I don't know why GOG doesn't provide links to these patches, but it definitely fits with their general "do as little as possible" approach to the game. For example, the "issues and solutions" sticky in this subforum is irrelevant and outdated by more than a year, and tons of solutions to common issues that were PMed to them never showed up anywhere. So yeah, can definitely see why you'd think that the autopatching is the only way to update.

When I last updated the EE via the launcher there were and are 3 patch files in the Documents>witcher 2> downloads folder. The 3.1, 3.2, and 3.2CU and you can back them up to anywhere you like. But like 227 said you can obtain all the patches on the witcher site.

So just to make this clear, setup package at GoG contains version 3.0 of the game?
Why is it labeled as 31x then? Is it an updated version of the setup but it still installs v3.0 of the game?

It`s not . It`s labeled as 3.0.1.17 (Windows Installer) If windows isn`t blocking the launcher from accepting connections then when you click the launcher it should state that the 3.1 patch is ready to download and do you want to download it. After that is installed the launcher should state the same for 3.2 and 3.2CU . Once they are downloaded and installed the game keeps the patch downloads in your Documents>Witcher 2>downloads folder . From there you can do anything you want with them .

That's not what I really asked, but got it, GoG installer installs v3.0, they didn't update it with post-3.0 patches.
