First off, let me say that I do enjoy the game but there are some things that make the whole experience a bit less enjoyable than it could've been.

Starting out with inventory - there is no option to sort the items and what's worse, they are not even displayed in alphabetical order by default, so every time you visit the merchant to buy an alchemy or crafting formula, you have to scroll through your inventory first to make sure that the formula you're looking for isn't already in your inventory. There is also no junk filter, for some reason. Another small gripe here is that the list of items in the inventory is pretty short, so you end up scrolling for quite some time after it fills up.

Buying/selling items is also a bit clunky - if you're buying a new weapon or armor, you don't get the equipped item shown for comparison when you're browsing through merchant's wares. Same thing with formulas - there is no indicator telling you if you have the formula in your backpack already or not - that, coupled with lack of sorting options in inventory makes this aspect of the game really frustrating. Another odd thing I noticed here is that I was able to sell some items that were marked as both Book and Quest Item. I haven't checked if you can sell items that are only marked as Quest as well, but if it is, it's a huge oversight.

Formulas - why is there no option to learn the recipes like in Witcher 1? That would allow the player to discard the formulas after using them and thus free up some inventory space.

Map and minimap - for some reason, the map always zooms out and moves to the side when I open it, not sure if that is intended or a bug, but it's annoying. Icons that indicate the important locations on the map don't always display the name when you hover over them. Closing and reopening the map seems to work sometimes. Minimap (the one in top right corner) is useless - it rotates and with no North indicator it's impossible to tell which way you're facing. And I still don't know what the green and blue circles are supposed to represent, since manual only mentiones red circles for enemies. I assume green are allies, but I have no idea about blue.

Highlighting - I don't really miss this the feature that highlighted the items in your surroundings, but I do miss the part of it that highlighted the names of npcs near you. This is currently a huge problem, since you have to be positioned perfectly and looking exactly at the npc if you want his name and/or Talk option to show up. If you stand too near there's a chance the indicator won't even show up - same thing when interacting with other objects such as doors. Not to mention what happens when you have several objects that can be interacted with clustered together.

Overall, the game is good, but the things I mentioned above are almost making me not play the game and wait for patches/mods instead.
You can highlight items in your surroundings by using your Medallion (default Z, I believe).

Took me a moment to find that in the manual, too.

I agree with the thing about recipes a lot though, more so since the inventory doesn't automatically sort in any way (alphabetical would be enough). It's just... a hassle. Can easily change it via a patch I suppose by simply removing the "Plans" category outright, just make it permanent when you pick up a plan.

Yes and no, it highlight stuff yes but no it's not really a worthy replacement of the highlight feature of W1, it's range is very limited, it only works on some limited stuff (container,pom,etc...), only for a limited time with cool down and it doesn't display names.
Yeah I knew about the medallion function but as I said, highlighting the items isn't what I need, just npc names would be enough :).
I can't stand the medallion. I've played through TW1 twice a week before release, and really, really need my ALT button to get proper bearing.

The medallion's timer is a pain in the ass, its range as you said way too limited and I mostly used ALT to identify relevant doors or NPC (whose name were green in TW1) anyway. Now, it's all guess work, and you waste time talking to everyone "just in case".

That's not immersion for me, and it's increasingly frustrating.

I also hate that ingredient types are not color coded in the inventory overview as they used to. Now you need to go through the whole list of ingredient to check whether you have the type you want, and it doesn't even say on harvest either, so unless you keep checking manually, you're not sure which plant to go after (they also seem to be harder to distinguish and more sparse than the first game).

For me it's the exact opposite, I love how it integrated "Loot-highlight" into the game in a believable manner instead of just leaving it as an arbitrary function which removes part of the atmosphere.

Damned if you do....

That being said, it could get some improvements, but for example the name thing I find disruptive. It'd be better if the minimap gets improvements in that case, and/or character models get changed to be more inherently distinguishable.
