You know, I haven't finished The Witcher neither The Witcher 2, but there's something about this series I just love, and keep coming back to them even if I'm going at a really slow pace. But I think I have never loved a series so much, I mean the whole setting and feeling of the game is amazing.
That's why I preordered the PS4 collector's edition on amazon without even thinking it (great thing, since it's sold out) and I even preordered the GOG edition. I think I have never spend that kind of money on a game, but after the gameplay videos and trailers, who would have doubts?
What do you guys expect from The Witcher 3? :D
I've been kicking around whether or not to pre-order this, I want the physical copy personally on PC. I have some pretty high expectations, whic is kind of bad because if it doesn't "change RPGs as we know them" it would probably disappoint at least a little. I'm hoping it doesn't play too much like 2, because they have played distinctively thus far. I expect great writing, fun combat, reasonably enjoyable difficulty, great music, great acting, and finally exceptional graphics.

I love the first two games a lot and highly recommend beating them, but do take your time, the games are both intricate enough that they deserve to be explored.

Although I am a bit concerned about an enhanced version coming out in a couple of years, anyone else?

Pretty sure the first two Witcher enhanced editions were free, so don't know what there is to worry about.(I bought them after the enhanced editions were already released though, so don't quote me on that)

At least for the second one I know, but I don't like the idea of not having the "complete experience" and having to go through the game again to see what changed. I also got the enhanced editions of both Witchers and therefore liked knowing they were complete games, although I suppose you are right, there is probably no need for worry.

CD Projekt RED listened to their fans and got rid of QTEs and monster boss fights on Witcher 3 (don't worry, there'll still be lots of random monsters popping in and out in the huge game world, according to the developers), but from the looks of it they are keeping with the more action-y controls of The Witcher 2, and I, for one, welcome that, as I loved the mechanics in The Witcher, but I very much prefer the ones they implemented in the sequel. People -- especially here on GOG -- complain a lot about the shift from more "old school" combat and game play mechanics of the first title to the more third-person over the shoulder "modern 3rd person action-adventure" controls of the second, but I think they're actually a minority. A very vocal one, to be sure, and gladly so -- people should be free to express their concerns and speak their minds --, but still a minority. The more "contemporary" mechanics of The Witcher 2 end up fitting the game better, in my humble opinion, and if they're going for a seamless fighting style, transitioning from physical attacks to magic/runes and items and back again with no hassle, in The Witcher 3, which they say they are, the old, clunky old school fighting mechanics of The Witcher are definitely not the way to go.

I know this pisses a lot of people off, people genuinely passionate about old school mechanics, and others who just like to bitch about everything that's new while praising all that "was done but isn't being done anymore", like a bunch of elitist video game geeks. I, for one, welcome a more action-oriented game play; CD Projekt RED won't ditch the RPG elements of The Witcher, it's part of what makes their games great, people will just have to deal with the fact they are going for a modern action RPG, instead of an old school one.
I think the modern gameplay fits better with Geralt, as I feel I actually am a great swordsman. I think I read somewhere that they were influenced by Dark Souls combat and I think that's great. And from the looks of thte gameplay trailer I think the combat is very fluid and well done. And I can't wait to play it.

I also never understood what was the problem with the monster boss fights, what were the arguments? Or did fans just didn't like them?
Pre-ordered the game here myself. Got called an idiot for preordering it of at the Steam Community. smh.

I wasn't much of a fan of the Witcher 2's combat when I first got the game. I stopped playing until the EE was released because I didn't find it fun spending a lot of the time I had to game looking at the reloading screen or replaying a fair sized section of the game.

I didn't have an issue with the monster boss fights.

QTE's... They are a blight on gaming and should be smited from the face of the gaming industry.. Amen... Hallelujah...

*drops out of a tree*

Found The Witchen 3 Collector's Edition - holy smokes awesome. Dont have the money to dish out for it since its 200.00 not including the shipping but still awesome. Love stickers and witcher bling.

On side note, QTE, no problem with doing them, i just feel like it detracts from the gameplay when you're forced to switch perspective and have to push x repeately to win. If i wanted to keep pushing X to win, i'd go and play final fantasy.
I expect to see a more open world.

Witcher1 was OK, because you could run around in a large area and there was mostly free movement within the maps. In Witcher2 everything was too much narrowed down for my taste, you nearly could only follow one specific path to get to a certain place and no way to take a different route.

The storyline was announced to be unique to other games. Here I expect nothing and want it all :D

The problem with "changing RPG's as we know them" is that the result will most likely be something we *won't like*...;) People like RPGs because they are, well..RPGs, and not something else.

It does not, however, make a bit of sense to pre order, imo. Like the OP says, "He can't wait" so he pre-orders. But, he's going to have to wait anyway, isn't he? A 50% discount from starting MSRP *might* be a good reason to pre order....but then, since we'll all have to wait anyway, pre-order or not, you might do better than that six months or less after the game ships--with the added benefit of the game getting any critical fixes it may need *before* we install and play.

Also, if CDPR does a W3 enhanced version, it'll be free for those who have already bought the game--so if anything it'll just be an excuse for replay--if it takes that long for it to materialize. I think that is more along the lines of something to anticipate as opposed to worry about...;)

I forgot to add that hopefully W3 will be very amenable to modding--like Skyrim for the PC. That will make a huge difference in the look and appearance of the game--not to mention its popularity--I feel almost sorry for console owners having to plod through a vanilla Skyrim.

As an old-school gamer who is often a proponent of old-school things, I can't say I see much to praise in combat from TW1 (which is the only game I've played from the series). I also don't see anything particularly old-school about it, because I can't think of any old game I've played that has a similar combat system. The closest I've seen is maybe the combat from Gothic 1 and 2, but I like those a lot better and I think they have more depth. I'm open to whatever changes were made in TW2.

TW1 is pretty good though, despite it's flaws. I plan on getting both 2 and 3 at some point. I'm not going to pre-order, however.
I don't always pre-order, but when I do, its The Witcher 3.
