I'm putting this here in case anyone wants to know how. It's really simple:

1. Make sure you run Witcher 2 at least once to create the necessary config files and folders.

2. Open this folder: "/home/user/.local/share/cdprojektred/witcher2/GameDocuments (In case you can't the find the ".local" folder make sure the view hidden files option is turned on). You'll notice that here's only 1 folder called "Witcher 2". Place your "The Witcher" folder here too and you're done.

3. There's no step 3 :D

I just ran into this myself... I will be doing a symbolic link between my The Witcher folder in the Wine subdir and the one mentioned above with the following command:

ln -s <path-to-wine-folder> <path-to-.local-folder>

I'll eventually use the same trick to allow Witcher 3 on wine to see my Witcher 2 saves as well... Once I get done playing the other two. :D

Sorry for my english. This is good advice, but there is a caveat - these steps are sufficient only for the English version, I suppose. As I played the Russian W1, W2 is refused to import the saved game W1 - until I loaded the saving in W1, change the language of W1 to English, and save game again. Then copied new created file to specified folder and now the save game of W1 found and imported by W2.
Can confirm the language issue: it didn't work with my french saves, had to reinstall TW1 with Wine to start the game in english, load the saves, resave over before copying them in the TW2 directory.
