In The Witcher 2 I have been experiencing some problems. Whether this is just due to the engine (My friend says his game runs fine and no pop in) or something else I do not know.

Basically I have 2 problems, the first being that there is horrible pop in on all sorts of stuff. People, objects, shadows, moving textures (like the tent in the prologue waving around in the wind, if I walk 20 meters away it changes to a flat texture)

I would really appreciate it if you guys could check in the same area (first area, prologue) and see if you get the same pop in on max settings.. I would really appreciate it..

(PLEASE COPY AND PASTE THESE SCREENSHOT LINKS INTO YOUR ADDRESS BAR BECAUSE CLICKING ON THEM DOES NOT SEEM TO WORK, THANKS!)

Screenshot 1, of me up close and no pop in issues http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/577801826970956235/3B52B1F62258491079FE49E29F337ED9EE0269B4/

Screenshot 2, of me farther away, you will notice all the people are gone, the textures on the tents have changed to static ones, things on the ground have disappeared, shadows have disappeared - http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/577801826989666438/3E0342D32CFDAD32A1162C7C5FBD01A02B4AFC53/

So you guys got this issue?

I've done everything I can think of - Reinstalled the game multiple times, tried every version (Activision patch, 1.1, 1.2, I have made sure they are the right ones for the GOG version), Tried each of my GPU's separately to make sure that isn't the problem, tweaked the config. None of it works.

Very sad :( I love Witcher so much and I just want to experience it to the fullest.. I don't want to play it until I fix this or I feel like it will spoil the real experience.. I want a fix so bad!! I just don't know where to go from here!!

SPECS:

ASUS MAXIMUS IV Extreme (MOTHERBOARD)
i5 2500k at Stock Settings (CPU)
Two MSI 580 Lightning in SLI (GPU)
8gb G.Skill RAM

There are 404 not found pages for both pictures.

I have heard of this before, but the person who experienced it before had the same thing happen when they played other games so it was clearly a dying video card or something like that. Do you have the same problem with other games?

You have to open the links with a slash in the end

edit: nvm, just copy/paste or they don't work

OP, are your graphic drivers up to date?

Actually, one of those links you posted worked. Thanks. The other picture still doesn't work for me, even with a slash in it, but it's the one without pop-in so it's not a big deal.

OP: Is your problem like this one? I'm pretty sure that person managed to fix the problem somehow, though the how of it doesn't seem to be listed in the thread. You might send them a private message if you're experiencing the same problem.

I have experienced pop-in issues but not as serious as this. Like what dnna say, you can still experiment with your NVidia drivers. Try installing different versions (beta or current version) - remember to uninstall completely before installing) - and maybe remove 3D Vision thingie.

In the meantime, I strongly encourage you to file a report to TW2 tech support (I think they have an email for tech support but I can't find it on their website ATM) here:

Scroll to the very bottom to "Still nothing?"

It's on the Community page, heh.

Ah, I found it. It is a bit hidden for my tastes though.

I would suggest that they put the email / tech-support form in a more visible spot so that more users can see it, for example the "Still Nothing?" could be put before the very lengthy Technical FAQ (of course, with the recommendation that one read through the Tech FAQ first) - IMO the tech-support form would be more helpful to the devs than just providing an email to tech-support because it makes users provide information that is vital to troubleshooting, in a consistent format.

Yep, I agree, that "heh" was aimed at them. It's a bit dumb because there are loads of e-mails scattered around Community page and none on Tech Support. Now I wonder which page people look on first when looking for help :|
Sounds like a GPU memory issue. For disappearing or bad quality textures, i found a solution, maybe it will help...

Check your "user.ini" file located in :
C:\Users\Username\Documents\Witcher 2\Config

Check following lines, they may looks like about this :

MaxTextureSize=2048
MaxAtlasTextureSize=2048
TextureMemoryBudget=300

This is for the "high" settings, you may safely increase the TextureMemoryBudget value up to 2/3 of your total GPU memory, i think.
Remember that your available memory is not the sum of your two cards, only one ;)

Just in case, try to uninstall your 3D vision drivers to see if that solve your problem.

Hope that will help...

It's win 7 related problem (catalyst driver issue) ....
FoliageDistanceScale and MeshDistanceScale are the entries you should look for, set the first one to 3.2 and the second one to 7.2 and check if you still have pop-in. If you haven't, then reduce them to values that give you less of a performance hit and no pop-in. You can increase TextureMemoryBudget depending on the amount of Vram you have. For 1gb - 600-700mb of budget are ok. For more VRAM, like your SLI system you can stretch for more.
