Hey all,

Well my first playthrough of Witcher 2 is complete, and I got an ending, which was decent i guess..

So I have question on these different endings, the game "auto-saves" at the last possible moment, but it doesn't denote what ending I have, granted the games only been out for 4-5 days, but does anyone happen to have any early conclusions on these endings work?

Is it based off all the decisions you make, then in the "epilogue" the characters you meet kind of sum up what's happening or what's going to happen? Or are there literally 16 different cut-scenes to look for?

Again, I realize that its still early to tell, and perhaps 2-3 weeks from now we can get better conclusions on how this works, as more people beat it, but I guess there's no reason why starting the discussion now is a problem, hehe.

Ohh.. minor rant here, but I do have to agree with what a lot of people say here about Chapter 3 its short, way too short.. Hell, the Prologue was longer then Chapter 3!, lol.. But that's a discussion for another time I guess, so minor rant off :)

thanks everyone,

Edit: Bah just realized the misspellings on the title thread, oops guess that's what I get for posting almost 5AM my time, lol I would edit it if I could, but it won't let me.

bumping as I made this post last night, in case anyone wants to start discussing this :)
Based on my two full playthroughs and a few save game loads, this is my opinion on the "16 endings".

There's four "major" ones (some might even say there's only two, but this is obviously a bit subjective). You can probably guess what the major choices are for these.

As for the other 12, the variations are pretty insignificant (obviously haven't gotten every ending, but I've done more than the four).

At the very least, the game is definitely worth replaying once, at the very least, to side with the other side. Not even because of a different ending, but because it's a different game depending on which side you choose. Whether it's worth replaying beyond that, is up to your individual expectations, but I think everyone owes themself to at least replay the other side, as I don't believe you get the full story if you only bother playing one side.

That was an example of doing choice well, as opposed to virtually every game making the choices superficial (including the first Witcher).

Agreed that the choices were wonderfully handled. Actually had to pause the game and think long and hard about a couple of the. None were too black and white and they each held real weight.

Very, very impressed. The fact that I was able to talk my way out of a few fights and even walk away from the (supposed) final battle was really a breath of fresh air as I felt I did that all myself instead of relying on Speech skill points or other such contrivances.
Just to be clear, there are a number of superficial choices in this game as well. I was specifically pointing out the faction choice as being one of those rare choices that had real meaning as a shining example of choice done well, as opposed to choices developers add to simply give you the "illusion of choice" that really only adds minor flavor to the game.

Having to choose born-again christian girl or borderline man-love bro in Mass Effect was a real choice for instance (not that it really changed the narrative any, but just trying to illustrated what I consider a real choice).

I wasn't really talking about choices to talk your way out of something when I made my earlier post. ;p And, I'm not sure those types of choices have any effect on the ending either. Heh.

Contrast that with faction choice in the first game where the story had very little change. Most games still tunnel you through the same maps, stories, quests, with some minor cut and paste text changes to call you savior of A, rather than savior of B. This faction decision was brilliant, compared to that.

There are other choices, which also have some real impact, but non to the degree as that one, imo. From what little I've experimented with, as obviously this will take time, early on decisions don't seem to have much, if any effect. So, at least for the major endings, you don't really have to replay an entire new game, and can simply use an earlier save.
