In version 1.2, the game sometimes crashes to desktop when I press F5 to perform a quicksave. This happens about one out of 10-15 times. Of course, that isn't such a high ratio, and the game is still perfectly playable, but it's still bothersome - since it occurs when saving, I always lose progress, and if I save more often to avoid loss of lots of progress, I get more crashes...

Do you have the same problem, or is it specific to my system? Did someone else who had this problem maybe figure out some kind of solution or workaround? =)

I also had crashes to desktop in 1.0 and 1.1, but those occured either at screen transitions or randomly during gameplay (e.g. while just walking around). Those crashes still occur in 1.2, too, but their frequency was reduced (only had one such crash in several hours of gameplay so far). Crashes when quicksaving didn't occur before, those are new in 1.2.

Try lowering Texture Memory size.
What's your system? I'm playing version 1.2 on an:

i7 920
GTX 560ti
6 GBs RAM
Win7 64 bit

I quicksave all the time (every few minutes - an old habit) and also do a manual save periodically. I've had no crashes at all.
Hi!

I have zhe same problem. But I had this problem, before patching, as well. And additional to qicksaves, it crashes at normal and autosaves, too. It's also much more frequently (5 times out of 6). It makes the game almost unplayable, and nothing I tryed worked.

do you guys have enough hard drive space where Windows is installed?

And another question: Did you by any chance move the "Document" folder from it's normal location (C:\users\*yourname*\documents) to another location (folder, partition, drive)?
There is sufficient free space (about 15 GB), and I didn't move the documents folder (I have the German version of XP, so it has a different name, but since the game found it anyway it shouldn't be a problem).

I'll try lowering my texture memory size on my next play session - I've set it to "large", so that really may be the problem. It worked fine in 1.1, but maybe 1.2 is more sensitive to a setting that is too high. Thanks for the idea, hanns.g! ^^

This shouldn't be an issue. I moved my whole Users folder to a completely different partition. It involves a registry tweak, but I've had no ill effects in any games.

I know, it's rare. But it has been reported (not on this game, I don't even remember which...I just remember having read this somewhere..sometime *g*). Back in the days there were games that didn't run properly when your user name contained a space...rediculous, but it happened. :D

Well, now you're dating yourself, because that was DOS that had that issue...

Frankly, if the game is not running stable, then there must be an issue with either the installation, or the PC itself. Check the basics and make sure that your PC is healthy and running smoothly. The game should not crash for any reason, unless you are over-taxing your hardware in some way.
Hi,

@ Peetz
I'm not overclocking anything, and my system runs stable. The performance of TW2 is absolutely smooth, as well. The only thing is, that it crashes almost everytime a save-process occurs.

Dunno what to suggest if you've tried all the suggestions above. I would uninstall - completely (removing leftover folders, etc) and re-install. Keep your save games by copying them somewhere else, obviously.

Don't accept what the default installation sets for your video settings - go in and tweak them through advanced options yourself. Try to run the same game resolution the same as your Windows desktop resolution.

Good Luck
Tahnks for the help.

I tried all that, before. It's simply not working, it crashes frequently, when the game is being saved. I have not the slightest idea, what else I could try. I hope this issue will be adressed in the next patch.

Thanks again!

No save-crash yesterday, with texture memory size reduced to medium. I only played for about two hours and didn't save that often, though, so it's still too early to tell.
Maybe this helps:
