I'm going to buy the Witcher 2 shortly [hopefully on GOG], but don't have the ability to download the 10GB of data that GOG's Witcher 2 requires. My brother owns the Witcher 2 on a retail DVD.

Can I install the retail disc version of Witcher 2, and then upgrade/override/patch the GOG version on top of that, thus avoiding the full data transfer?

If not, then is there any other way that I can use the Witcher 2 retail disc to play the GOG.com version without downloading the entire game?

I could avoid this problem by buying it on Steam [my ISP provides unmetered access because they host several Steam servers], but I'd rather invest my money and loyalty with GOG. Any ideas?

I doubt it. Why not just use your brother's retail copy? Once installed and activated, you don't need the disc in the drive and you're allowed to have it installed on up to 5 machines simultaneously anyway. No need to DL the 10 GB file in that case. If you want to support GOG, just purchase the game here but use your brother's copy. Win/win.

I didn't know that you could do that. It's a good idea.

Thank you.

edit: Hah! It looks like I don't even need to do that. Through sheer luck I've managed to win a retail collectors edition through a competition that my ISP was running.
