I am currently in the prologue, and I have a talent point to spend. I have no idea how to spend the talent point in the tree. I've tried clicking, double clicking and just about every keyboard button. I've read the tutorial snippet and it provided no help. I do realize that you only have the witcher training tree open at the start. Is it because you can't allocate talent points in the prologue, or am I missing something?

I think you can get there by pressing "C"

You might have to meditate, which you can do by holding control and pressing the middle option.

Yes, I know how to get into the talent tree, but I can't figure out how to allocate the 1 talent point I have.
You can only allocate to like 3 options the first time. Inner circle working it's way outwards... think like Final Fantasy or DAII how you can't get all the skills until you upgrade earlier ones.

So... basically pick the vigor regen one. Click on it. Then hit enter / select enter.
Pressing "C" should take you to the character screen, unless you re-binded it with something else.

In the beginning only the training skills are available.
you can assign points only to the three skills on starting from bottom (more vitality, parry and whatever the third one is). only then can you assign points to other skills.

you should be able to just click one of the skills and a box popups for you to confirm the skill upgrade

edit: and ninja'd again, damn you guys :p

Tried this. Have hardiness highlighted, pressed enter (as well as every other keyboard key) and nothing happens.

Also, I have not rebound any of the keys.

you have to hit ctrl and the very middle button is meditate, click it. In meditation go to character and then use the space bar to level.

This was it. It's been so long since I played the first that I forgot you had to meditate to level. Thanks for this, and also thanks everyone else for the help.
speaking of skill points. how many do you get in relation to total skills?

can you at some point max out everything, or is like the first game where you can not
