I'm looking to buy the game and I have found a copy of the basic original edition as a retail boxed copy for £11.99.

Is there any reason why I can't just buy this and then get the Enhanced Edition backup copy from GOG, and therefore have the EE to play? Rather than paying the £25-30 price for the straight up Enhanced Edition?

Thanks in advance.

no just to give money to a great company that deserves it
If you've found a cheap retail version, then by all means grab it. There's no reason not to, really. You'll have to deal with all the hassle of updating it, but if that doesn't bother then then go for it. But you'd have to deal with that one way or another anyway.
Get the latest build with an ability to update your installation files in the future.
At the same time you will support GOG.com and CDPR, a pair of great companies.

No reason at all--go for it...;) Just make sure, though, that it wasn't a bargain-bin copy of "The Witcher" instead of "The Witcher 2."
