So yeah, ideally looking for a fix for this.

e: I just learned the GoG forum doesn't let you link videos. As such, the video I'm referencing is the Giantbomb Quicklook of the Witcher 1 if you want to check out what exactly I'm talking about in video form.

This video shows a pretty good representation of what I'm seeing. Particularly 0:45 or 1:02-1:05. Huge cuts and tears across the screen, especially as Geralt puts his knife in his belt, and has a seizure from the potion he drank.

Now here's the thing. I know the game doesn't look like this normally. I played it several times in the past, and had no issues with the intro cutscene. I also can dig up multiple videos of people playing the game on Youtube/this intro off Youtube without that tearing.

What causes this? And how do I fix it? I've installed the game again on my laptop ( WinXP ), as well as my girlfriends computer ( Win7 ), and they both still encounter the issue. So it's not an OS based thing. That's also a good diversity of hardware, being an ATI card ( me ), Nvidia card ( girlfriend ), and integrated card ( laptop ). While the integrated is obviously not the best card around, both my card and hers are near top of the line.

This also seems to be a problem with the game itself. Whenever too much is happening on screen ( Geralt running in the intro noncutscene also has pretty bad tearing ) the game starts tearing up as well, which I'd rather not deal with for the entire game.

I've seen multiple people in threads say the game has tearing issues in game, and that it's fixable by turning on Vsync in your cards control panel, but that doesn't seem to change anything. I've turned on Vsync with the Catalyst Control Panel/Nvidia Control Panel now, and it hasn't fixed anything in game.

The only other solution I've maybe seen is something called RiviaTuner. Except that thread hasn't been updated in quite some time, and the site linked to for download has been overtaken by malware/viruses. When I downloaded the file it immediately infected my PC with some really intrusive adware, and I had to do a near full wipe just to get back control of my PC. Unless someone has a cleaned/hidden RiviaTuner just lying around somewhere they'd be willing to Mega for me, I'm not exactly keen on the idea of going back there.

So, any ideas?

e: I have tried the .bik file from the sticky at the top of this forum. It did not fix it.

e: I have tried turning Depth of Field off, and then turned it back on. This did not fix it.

I was able to get VSync to work in the Witcher with the help of the RadeonPro tool. Setting VSync to always on in the "Tweaks" tab of RadeonPro worked for me. As RadeonPro is no longer being developed, it might not work together with your card, but I would recommend to give it a try.

I'm sorry to hear this, because RivaTuner is what fixed it for me. More specifically, it's a tiny program called D3DOverrider that comes packaged with RivaTuner. D3DOverrider allowed me to force Vsync in the game even when it didn't work through my graphics card options.

I assume you downloaded RivaTuner from Guru3D? They say that nvworld.ru is another official host, so you might try there instead:

If that works I will update the sticky to include that link instead. If it doesn't work maybe I can find a safe way to send you the installer. Maybe send me a PM about it?
If you are using a NVIDIA gpu, you should just force V-sync through the NVIDIA control panel. It fixed the screen tearing for me instantly. NVIDIA control panel has game specific settings, it really works. I suppose AMD has a similar program, but I'm not sure how well it works.

AMD does have that ability, but it didn't work for The Witcher. In fact, even setting the system-wide setting to force VSync in everything still didn't apply Vsync to The Witcher. The only way I got it to work was with that D3DOverrider program mentioned above.

Although, AMD recently changed their software, and I haven't tried this with the new software yet, so maybe that helps.
