I got a new PC today(windows 8.1!)
Will the game run fine? I don't want to download until I know if it will work, or what I need to make it work.

A lot of people are running the game under Windows 8.1.
If you haven't yet, you need to install DirectX9 on your new system, because by default only DirectX11 is installed, which is missing necessary older components.

The game sometimes doesn't recognize new hardware on newer Windows versions. If you run into this issue (a message about minimum requirements will appear when you start the game), you have to edit the shortcut, you're using to start the game. Right-click it and select Properties.
Edit Target by adding -dontForceMinReqs
E.g. "C:\Program Files (X86)\The Witcher Enhanced Edition\System\witcher.exe" -dontForceMinReqs
(Of course, the path might differ on your system, depending on your install location)

Eventually you'll have to check first hand if the game is working on your system. Windows 8.1 is rather new, so there's always a chance to run into new problems, e.g. with new graphic drivers.

Thank you very much. I will download and give it a shot now!

It works perfectly on 8.1x64 and it also works on "8.1.1x64", as well, which is 8.1 with the upcoming '014 "Spring Update" which I have already installed. No worries there--I've yet to install/run a game which ran for me in Win7x64 but won't in 8.

Like an earlier post mentioned, definitely install the latest DX9.0c, which is dated June 2010...'s good for all your games, actually.

Yes it will run just fine. 100% compatible with Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Don't install the game in the Progam Files folder (not in Vista, not in 7 and not in 8.1)

If I try and add -dontForceMinReqs to the target, I am informed that the target becomes invalid. What am I doing wrong?

*Edit* Nevermind. It turns out there needs to be a space between the close quote and the dash
