I'm attempting to register the game through the launcher, and while I understand that this is not a requirement it's something I would like to do.

That being said, it is asking me for a CD-Key, something I can not find anywhere. I understand that this copy is 100% DRM free, so a CD-Key is not required to download/install but one should be included regardless.

E-mail support. Games with multiplayer components on GOG require keys and you have to e-mail support to get them. I realize this game is single player, but assume obtaining a key would be the same process. It also may be something they've overlooked.

I'll do that now, hopefully I can get a key soonish.

Seems like it would make more sense to give everyone a key when they purchase the game and list it in the game information section...

exactly...
Publisher of The Witcher (CD Projekt) decided that, since our games are DRM free, there is no need to include a CD-key in our version of the game and did not provide us with any keys. Registration does not bring any benefits so you are not losing anything. Happy gaming :)
Then you should have removed the option to register from the launcher... Whatever.

what about updates? like the register button there is an update button. All patches require registration for download!

All the updates are already included in gog's version.
They are? My freshly downloaded version says it's version 1.4, not 1.5

Have a look here http://www.patches-scrolls.de/ and serach for "The Witcher". I'm sure all you possibly could wish for in patches will be revealed.
Actually, when I looked in the Properties of witcher.exe it says version 1.5, and the 1.5 patch refused to update anyway, so I'm going to call it good. Thanks for the link though, it's been bookmarked for my other Witcher versions. :)

That doesn`t appear to be a cd-key but it`s probably your order confirmation number. The cd-key would or should look something like
REDXXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
I totally agree with you but then I or my key then avoire
I totally agree with you but where do I get my key then

If you purchased the game from GOG then you won`t have a cd-key . If you purchased a disc version of the game then it should be on the inside of the front cover of the game guide . If you purchased the game from a digital download provider then they should supply you with a cd-key
i have bought the CD version games store
but no key
