Hey guys, we all know that Witcher uses that combo system where you have to press the left mouse button in the right moment to execute the next stronger attack. Now, there's the thing I've been wondering about for years.

I clearly remember that in the original version I played (long before the Enhanced Edition came along) the mouse cursor would change into a burning sword when you have to click to execute the next attack in the sequence. And I'm pretty sure that back then you could actually switch that cursor thing on and off in the options. I haven't seen that in years, maybe since the Enhanced Edition was introduced. Now the only indicator seems to be the yellow or orange trail behind the actual 3D model of the sword which is much harder to see than the cursor.

Does anybody know what's up with that? Don't I see it because I'm playing on hard? Or was it actually fully removed?

It depends on your chosen game difficulty. The flaming sword icon only exists on Easy and Medium difficulty level. Mods might change that further (e.g. the FCR: Full Combat Rebalance Mod offers the option to turn the flaming sword icon on at hardest difficulty level or to turned it off on the easier difficulty levels).

Guess I incidentally started to play on hard the first time I got my hands on the Enhanced Edition and so it seemed like it was a change introduced there. Thanks.

I'm not gonna use a mod since I've already reached Chapter V on hard without much trouble, so I doubt I'll have many problems from this point on but it is getting more irritating as you have to fight bigger and tougher crowds and it's getting harder to keep track of Geralt's sword. Deactivating the flame cursor on hard wasn't the best move by the designers, IMO.

You're welcome. As I edited above, the Full Combat Rebalance Mod offers options to turn the flaming sowrd on and off at any difficulty level, just in case that's what you're looking for.

As I edited above, I'm not gonna use any mods (this time, at least) but thanks for the recommendation. Although in some other thread I read that there's some issues with the FCR mod. I think someone mentioned a glitch that needs to be fixed by editing the save state or something so I'm gonna stay clear of that one for now.
Yeah, I wouldn't bother with mods at this stage either. What was helpful to me (I played it modded to Harder than Hard) was actually hearing the right time to click for the combo. There's a sound indicating it. That frees up your eyes for a better overview.
I always just listened for the signature sound that indicated it was time to click again. After a few chapters you learn the rhythm of the attacks well enough you know when to click anyway, at least that was my experience. I hate that flaming mouse cursor. Just FYI most features of Flash's mods are modular, so you could install only the tweaks and not the core mod itself.
