EDITED:

Nevermind, Zarista don't want to sell their expansions here, so I just deleted the whole thing. I don't want to mislead anyone.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Anyway, it's possible, and here's the link: http://linux.redshift.hu/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6284#p17453

Also, custom portraits:

http://linux.redshift.hu/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4471

Adding your own character portraits to the game.

This only works on the new versions, not on the old iPhone version, sorry.

Create the following folder hierarchy:
On Windows: "data/worlds/bres", in the game's folder.
On the Mac: "The Quest/worlds/bres", in the Documents folder.
For iOS and Android: "data/worlds/bres", anywhere on your computer, but see a later step.
Put an image in the innermost folder ("bres"), named "head01". The image must be a BMP file (so "head01.bmp"). It must be 128x128 pixels and 24 bit true color, without any extra metadata (like color space information). So a simple bmp file.

For the iOS: copy the "data" folder to your device, using iTunes (drag and drop the folder, "Add File..." won't work, sync after the copy).

For Android: copy the "data" folder to your device, into the "Android/data/hu.redshift.thequest/files" folder.

Restart the game (if it's been running).

Look over the portraits in game until you find your addition. If you've already created your character, just click on the portrait on the character screen.

This replaces one of the built in character portraits. But if you want custom portraits, that shouldn't be a problem. :)

The game will use a maximum of 15 images (head01 - head15).
Yes, that information is in the release thread also as I asked the question. It is however not ideal, that zaristagames.com website seems flaky to me, I thought I would try with the free ones, and they don’t do anything when download is clicked, so I am not going to be sending money there.
As for buying them on steam, well in which case I wouldn’t be buying the game on gog, why would I want half an attempt?

Simply put GOG needs to sort out there release so we are not second class citizens again. I have a ticket in about this, but for now I am not buying anything to do with this game (I have it on the iPad).
Same goes with the workshop only dark quest content, though to a lesser extent. Seems like workshop is becoming more of a drm than ceg!

If by flaky you mean amateur & (probably, I have no idea) abandoned, you're right. I don't think they can live off of creating expansions for Redshift games.
Luckily, it's a hobby they have, so we can get lots of extra content for both The Quest & Legacy.
I have bought expansions directly from them & I have absolutely no complaints.

Waiting is one of the options, yes.

1) EDIT: Not available.
2) Buy from Steam.
3) Wait.
4) Get on GOG's ass to make them do something about it.

Lots of choices!

Makes me wonder, though... if GOG hadn't refused the Quest initially, would've Redshift & Zarista come up with a solution other than SteamWorks?
Who knows?...

Ok, may try it. Did hear back from GOG, the information has been passed on, so we may see the expansions here. It would be best for zarista and gog. Let’s hope.
To be clear, ALL expansions on the "Products" page are compatible with GOG's version of The Quest?: http://www.zaristagames.com/

Have any of you tried this yet?

I had sent an email on the site the other day too but haven't gotten a response...that could be an issue on my end though.

All expansions from Zarista which are available on the Steam Workshop work with the GOG version too. (Here is the list.) These are the ones they have updated for the updated version of The Quest.

It's up to Zarista how they want to or can make them available. They need to figure out how to get payment for them but otherwise they just need to provide the exact same files.

Bad news my friends,

I had e-mailed Zarista since it still wasn't clear to me if everything on that page was compatible with the PC version of GOG. I was specifically interested in Cursed Chess Set and had asked about that.

Here is the answer I received:
"Thank you for your question. We haven't ported Cursed Chess Set to HD yet. It's on the list but haven't gotten there yet. We do not plan on making our expansions available on GOG for this reason. It's DRM free. Digital Rights Management is meant to protect games from privacy. I fear that if we did make our expansions available for GOG, we would be more vulnerable to piracy.

Cursed Chess Set and the other Classic versions of our Quest expansions won't work with GOG. They don't use the new HD graphics so it won't work.

I'm sorry but we charge so little and piracy is a big problem. I hope you understand.

@RedShift
Thank you for all your comments but this is also way too confusing since it appears to me that we are being told conflicting things from you compared to Zarista. Or maybe not, but I simply can't process all this old version/new version/click to another site stuff. You people make it awfully difficult to spend money!

That said, now that Zarista's stance on DRM-free (i.e. refusing to support it) has been made clear, I am not purchasing any of them. As RedShift's comments seem to indicate some familiarity with Zarista, it would've been helpful to buyers here to know Zarista's stance BEFORE my post right now, but I digress.

But for those still interested, how hard is it to have a list HERE, on this site, maybe even on the gamepage, specifically saying what is and isn't compatible. Seriously, you people make it difficult to spend money.

Edit: took out a non-functioning italic tag I had tried to add.

Let me see if I can help.

Redshift only sells the base game & the expansion. If anyone wants to have the "complete package", that's it.

All other expansions are made by Zarista, and while official (as in, being approved by Redshift for sale), they're not part of the game in any way.
And yes, the people at Zarista don't make it easy. I don't think that's their intent, but it is the end result.

If you're interested in their expansions, here is the link for all updated versions:

https://store.steampowered.com/itemstore/428880/browse/?filter=All

If an expansion is not in that list, it hasn't been ported to the new version of the Quest yet.
I'm trying to convince Catacomber to at least make an effort, but obviously, I can't force her. If she's adamant in having nothing to do with GOG, well, more's the pity. EDIT: Nope, couldn't convince her.

But remember that neither the game nor expansion are in any way crippled or incomplete. You get EVERYTHING except third-party content.

Thank you for adding these clarifications. I did not mean to imply or make people think the game was incomplete;I understand the expansions are more like the equivalent of "paid mods"...quite a few of the expansions looked appealing to me though.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but for a DRM-free customer that does not want to buy from Scheme, these are the steps:
-They have to go to the Scheme website
-Then check the list of what's on Scheme
-Then go to the Zarista site
-Then select only the expansions that appear on the Scheme list

And if they do pick the correct ones, these expansions work, because they are based on the "new HD graphics"? So utterly and needlessly confusing. A customer shouldn't need a real-life auto-map feature to buy expansions for a dungeon-crawler. Let's hope Zarista/Catacomber reconsiders offering the expansions here on GOG DRM-free.

That also involves GOG. They did manage to put Blizzard games up for sale, so never say never, but I'd wait sitting down.

I'm sorry if all this is confusing. I'll try and clear it up a bit.

We are Redshift Games. We created and sell The Quest and Islands of Ice and Fire.

Everything else is not by us.

Because of historical reasons, we did sell Zarista's expansions (because there was no other way originally when original version of The Quest was released on the iPhone). We have stuck with that setup on mobile.

When the updated Quest was released on PC, on Steam, we took the opportunity to move away from that. To let third parties (Zarista) release their stuff as theirs. We'd like to continue with that.

So yes, on GOG you get everything we offer. Zarista's expansions are theirs, not part of The Quest. Anyone else can create expansions too and even sell them (if they want to / are able to).

I never claimed Zarista will do anything. I said they can and the same files available on Steam will work on the GOG version of the game so they don't have to do anything apart from taking the money some way and providing the files. I've only learned of their decision not to do so around the same time as you. (Catacomber wrote me an email around the same time she posted about it). And of course I respect her decision.

Thank you for the clarifications and for yourselves supporting DRM-free gaming. The Quest is awesome.

RedshiftGames: ...
That's fine to respect her decision. However could you maybe explain to her why you felt comfortable releasing here?

I've written to her and explained how GOG works on Monday after release.

I was surprised by her decision but she is her own person and can decide for herself. Here you can see her reasoning.
