Hello, I am having trouble opening this game on my laptop. rather, it opens fine, but it is all white. the sound works fine, and i can activate the menu items, i just can't see anything except the mouse. (see screenshot) for example, i pressed Up>Enter>Y, and it gave me an exit quip and quit, but i didn't see anything.

I have tried the following:
--Updated all my drivers (graphics, cpu, even stuff like network drivers)
--Ran in compatibility mode with Win XP, also with Win 7, and Win 95
--ran as administrator
--updated directX (to june 2010) and dotnet

No change. Oddly enough, other GOG games work fine on my laptop, and even more oddly, Strife works fine on my desktop. I can't figure out why it wont work on my laptop. I prefer it on my laptop because i like to play doom and duke nukem and biomenace and lots of other old games on long bus rides.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Could you give us some more details, i.e. which graphics card, what Windows version?

I'm guessing that the Laptop has a AMD graphics card, which could be the problem, because "Stife: Veteran Edition" uses OpenGL.

Hey there, thanks for the response!

I am using an Acer AspireOne notebook with Win7-Starter(x86).
I have OpenGL v1.4,
CPU Intel Atom N550 1.50GHz.
The graphics card is on-board, "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150"
Don't bother with compatibility modes. Strife: VE requires a minimum of Windows Vista anyway.

OpenGL 1.4 is definitely the problem. I think 2.1 is needed. Try upgrading your graphics driver

That could be a problem… His graphics card only supports OpenGL 1.5 on Windows and 2.0 on Linux according to Wikipedia and some discussion on other forums.

You could try to run the game in zdoom (even the legacy version of gzdoom might work).

Of course, those ports don't support most parts of SVE.wad, so you would lose the quest fixes and some other updated stuff.

Are you sure about Strife requiring a minimum of Vista for Windows OS?

GOG's Strife store page has it listed as:
Works on:
- Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10)
- Mac OS X (10.9.5+)
- Linux (Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04)
