Windows 10, new laptop, meets all of the game specs. AMD video card (R5).

Two weird bugs. One, when I save (or load) I get a white box and after hitting the esc key the white box briefly becomes visible with YES and NO options then vanishes. The game saves (or loads) but it's not doing what it should do. Same for exiting the game, I can't see or use the box (my cursor freezes too), I have to CTR-ALT-DEL to the task manager then end the task (game).

Second, it's only happened once and I was able to work around it but entering the police station from the air bus crash scene the game crashes. No other crashes up through chapter 8 but this bugged me.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I have both the same ones. I have figured out how to work around the save/load issue by where I put my mouse on screen, but yeah, I also only get a white box and can't see either the Yes/No buttons or the cursor until I move it (blindly) and manage to click one.

But now I've gotten to the police station and the game freezes up and crashes EVERY time. I've tried all the different graphics settings, going back to a saved game ten or fifteen minutes before that point and playing up to it again, trying to alter anything before I get there, and even deleting and re-installing the game. No luck. It freezes when entering the police station and so now it is unusable.

I downloaded the game two or three weeks ago and haven't seen a separate patch.

Any help would be appreciated.

you talk about the first game, "the longest journey", right? if so:

<spoiler> you dont need to enter the police station in this way, its not needed for the game. u need to find another way. </spoiler>

for me the police station-bug was fixed by starting a random video (loop) before i start the game. i used the windows media player, but maybe it works too with vlc or whatever. heared about playing a long internet video works too (google for something about 1 hour or more). of course play it without sound :)
no other bugs here, win7 64bit - nvidia card.

It seems this can be fixed with the DxPrimaryEmulation compatibility fix in ACT (Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit). Set the parameter of the fix to "-DisableMaxWindowedMode" (without quotes).

If you don't know how to use ACT, I've also attached a compatibility database containing the same fix, along with two VBS scripts to install and uninstall it. Please change the attached file's extension from png to zip. Unzip the file and run tljfix_install.vbs to install the fix or tljfix_uninstall.vbs to uninstall it.
(Note that you can also uninstall it from Control Panel / Programs and Features, it will be listed as "The Longest Journey Compatibility Fix".)

Works for me on Windows 10, I think it should work on Windows 8 as well.

What do you mean you can't see it?

If you mean you can click on it but you only get an empty page, that's normal as it's not really an image but a renamed zip file (due to forum restrictions, can't attach zip files directly).
You need to right click on the attachment instead of opening it and choose something like "Save link as..." (depending on your browser) to download the file, then rename it manually so that it has a .zip file extension.

If you mean you can't see any files attached to my post, that's weird... I can see it even when not logged in, at the bottom of the post, it says this:

Everyone, right click and select save as and rename the extension to .zip.

Yes, this works fine...! Thanks for uploading it--ACT can sometimes be a pain to navigate...;)

Now, if I can just figure out how to keep my FSAA on *without* a screen full of mouse trails, I'll be happy...!

You can use the options you can not see. "Y" for yes and "N" for no.
It's a dialog box asking to confirm your choice.
So when trying to Quit Exit or Save type "Y" for yes and to confirm.

It should only affect The Longest Journey. More specifically, it's set to match the file name "game.exe" with product name "The Longest Journey", so it's highly unlikely that anything else would match. (You can check the product name by right clicking game.exe in file explorer, and selecting Properties -> Details).

This fix the yes or no button but now the video and cut-scenes doesn't shows, only sound. Any advise?
