Hello

I tried posting this a few mins ago but I got an error so apologies if it ends being a double post.

I have checked posters on here saying TLJ works on Windows 7 ( which is what I have) , did it require a lot tweaking etc??

The other question I have is it worth getting Dreamfall.. when I check online reviews a lot people say Dreamfall is not as good as TLJ??

Thanks in advance.

I run the retail version of TLJ just fine on Win 7 x64, tweaking only the resolution via my monitor stretching to the 4:3 aspect ratio.

TLJ is a wonderful point and click adventure, while Dreamfall is more a nice third person adventure game; it is not a terrible game, it's just very different from its predecessor in the bad way, but still enjoyable.
Thanks , I purchased TLJ last nite.. I'd love to find other games like Little big Adventure 1 and 2

Dreamfall is much more clunky in controls than the original TLJ but I would stll recommend it myself because it has an awesome story. The combat mechanic in the game is terrible (though very very few actual battles) and the game is overall a bit easier due to controls they added so it could be released on consoles as well as PC.

Also, Dreamfall Chapters will probably come out in a few years http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/12/14/dreamfall-chapters-details-revealed.
Dreamfall is a big steaming pile of ass. The story is a complete mess that doesn't make any sense whatsoever and has the characters acting in ways that aren't even remotely believable and the gameplay ranges from non-existant to a clunky mess. I believe the shitty combat and stealth mechanics were already mentioned, but the rest of the gameplay is really just talking to people and the odd fetch quest, with maybe three very simplistic puzzles in the entire game (if that).

Just stick with The Longest Journey. My only complaint with that game is that puzzles can be a bit derpy, but they're hardly the worst examples of Adventure Game Logic. It's an all round fantastic game with a well written and coherent story. Dreamfall just doesn't even come close to living up to its predecessor.
Thanks , that's the problem I have with Dreamfall is that alot of people say its nowhere near as good as TLJ

I, for one, have personally enjoyed Dreamfall. While it is definitely not mechanically the best game out there, let's be honest: neither was TLJ. The strengths of bot of the games lies within the story and characters, and I've found the concept of an unlikeable, privileged and spoiled protagonist going through a character change quite well executed. While not as brilliant as TLJ it continues the plot reasonably, and does set a nice stage for a (hopefully coming soon) conclusion of the series.

I'd say: go through TLJ. If you fall in love with the story, characters, settings and style - get Dremfall. If you don't, Dreamfall won't convince you either.

I would say it's a good game but not as good as TLJ. It's more focused on telling story and less on challenging puzzles. Me and my friend like to say it's a clickable movie. :) Kind of like Heavy Rain.
Its mood is drastically changed a lot too. TLJ was serious but it was also full of wonder and gentleness. Dreamfall gets darker and pragmatic. Someone can have difficulties to adjust to the shift.

I'd recommend to try it. If you are hesitant, buy it during some steeper promo.

To Dreamfall's credit, the set pieces are interesting and the character models look a little bit better than TLJ. But I agree, the story is a disservice to TLJ and the "combat" feels more like an afterthought (as if games will never sell unless they have some form of combat in it).

By the way is TLJ really for Windows 7? Because the page on it just says XP, Vista, 8.

A lack of GOG support indicates they either haven't tested (I doubt it) or there was something preventing them from giving it a full support. For example, like crashing on 3 of 10 rags.

I own Windows 7 SP1 64bit and it ran smoothly as far as I tested it.

I know I'm in the minority, but I personally enjoyed Dreamfall far more than TLJ. Beautiful game, great story, great characters. It sucked me right in, and is on my personal "10 best games ever" list, while TLJ felt only as "a fun point and click".

But I can fully understand why TLJ fans would dislike it : Those are very different games, gameplay-wise (TLJ is a classic oldschool "point-and-click on everything" puzzle solver, Dreamfall is a third person adventure with minigames and simpler puzzles) and storywise (TLJ has a great deal of witty humor, while Dreamfall is darker and more dramatic). So anybody wanting a "TLJ2" when they bought DF would be undestandably disappointed.

Another point of warning about DF : It ends with a cliffhanger that should have been resolved in the third (and last) game, "Dreamfall Chapters". You can piece together some of the missing elements, but it feels incomplete.
The good news, though, is that "chapters" is in the works and should (finally!) come out next year :)
I wouldn't be excited about chapters. April isn't even involved. It's only Zoë Castillo and seems like Kian will be there too. But the most important char and actually the main char of both games is missing in chapters. Also, from what i have seen on steam greenlight i don't like the new look of zoë. And funcom isn't making it. I think chapters will fail, as the original developer isn't involved. Sometimes it's better to let a serie left alone and don't dig it up again. And TLJ is such an example. Simcity 2013 is already an example of how a reincarnation is giving the serie a bad name. Same goes with those so called hd remakes.
Anyway; Dreamfall is a great game by the way. Yes, the setting isn't welcoming. Zoe is naive and stubborn, kian is your honorbound fighter and april is now a bitter person who doesn't want to remember the past. And the game has a serious tone, there is almost no humor in it. But the locations are great, puzzles are good and despite the tone the story is pretty good. Fighting is nothing serious though. I have the game on dvd. Only nasty thing is that starforce DRM.

These statements needs a few corrections... Red Thread Games have made no definite statement about April, but the voice actress that played April will be involved in the game.

Also, while Funcom may not be involved I am more interested in the people working on this:
Ragnar Tørnquist
- Director&Writer for TLJ
- Director&Writer for Dreamfall
- Director&Writer for Chapters
Dag Scheve
- Writer for Dreamfall
- Writer for Chapters

They have even requited some of the art people, programmers and music/sound designers from the original games.

I see no reason to be worried about continuity of the Stark/Arcadia universe or that Chapter will not be as heavy on the story side as the previous games. Quite the contrary.

I preferred dreamfall to TLJ , moving around in the game I change movement from camera to mouse which allows you to move by mouse rather than keyboard. I feel its a harder game but I do love it. yes it has those fighting scene which I don't like but it's only in a couple of spots.
