Hi, this is my first JRPG game, and am currently so frustrated by it.

I can't camp, so I can't heal. I have no healing potions or revive balms left, and have started the last couple of battles at 50 % health. As a result I usually get one shotted by these spider or scorpions on my way to some mines. So all that's left for me to do is to die, then retry with the game making it easier with offset on.

Is this really what the game is supposed to be about or am I missing something?

Because knowing every battle will have to be repeated until I win, or level up, just doesn't make me want to go any further into this game.

Thanks.
Camp? To clarify: the "camp menu" is simply the option menu. If by "camping" you mean setting up camp at any random place and regenerating your health points completely...you can't do that. The only places to rest up is at a healing station, like the one in the sewer, at a hotel (like in Rolent, though you shouldn't since there's free places to rest up) or at Estelle's home.

Tear balms are the most expensive ways to heal and you shouldn't use those unless you're out of EP.

The best way to heal is to simply cast the Tear spell. Scherazard forced you to carry at least one blue quartz, meaning at least one of you will have access to the healing spell. The Tear spell restores a fixed 200 hp to a single target, which should keep you going for a while. Don't be afraid to heal with this spell, because whenever you level up, your EP gets restored completely.

Also, try to open additional slots at the orbment factory in town whenever you have enough sepith. More open slots means more EP to cast spells with. EP doesn't increase through level ups.

Just a tip for you, since you say this is your first JRPG (and only a tip, since Erpy, above, gave an excellent answer): There are very few times that you will actually be rushed, in this game. Try to do the side quests, and take your time and explore. Save after every battle that went well for you.

This is technically grinding, but if you do as much of the side stuff as possible early on, you will do two things that will help you enjoy the game a lot more - first, it'll get you an extra level or two, making the fights a little easier, and second, it'll help you get the feel of the game a little better, making it all much easier for you.

Resting in inns is cheap, so if you're ever going somewhere but you have low EP on your characters, then go rest first unless you're about to level. There's no rush; rest up between adventures and the game will be a lot less frustrating (trust me, the towers are enough of a pain to explore without being aggrieved by the rest of the game...)

Thanks for this. It got me back on track. My mistakes were: I turned right to the mines instead of left to the tower. Also I thought I could camp to rest and restore hit points. At least now I can look forward to continuing.

Oh, one more question: can tear be cast outside of combat?

Thanks again.

Sure, from the Camp menu, chose orbitals and a character that can cast Tear, choose tear and then choose the person who you want to cast it on. Something like that :)

Yes, many of your recovery spells will work outside combat. Menu -> Orbment, select the character, and the top part shows your quartz you have equipped; the second part shows what spells you have as a result. Any in white (not greyed out) should be castable out of combat.

EDIT: Ninja'd again!

In addition, if you run out of EP for the character casting Tear, you can always temporarily switch the blue quartz around to give that spell to the other character and have them do the healing.

Picking up recipes and some ingredients is cheaper healing than tear balms too.

That's a great tip. I actually prolonged combat with easy mobs intentionally just so that I could get another turn to cast Tear.
