Hi i got the game yesterday, have started an new game maybe 6 times now downloaded 2 bugfixes mods, deleted the game and re-installed it but my character and wife aren't getting any experience. Character is on 475 Xp and wife is on 0 Xp . I've had children (well my wife has), given bonus, done that whip thing at work. The Xp shows up over the character when the act is complete but doesn't get added to the overall.

I've played as a rouge and a craftsman had the same prob with both.

Interesting. I've played a short time and haven't gained a level either - I thought maybe the level curve was a bit steep for baking "level 1 bread" but I'll have to pay more attention to see if I'm having a problem with this too.

If you press C you can see what LV and XP you have.

The last time I looked I was at level 1 and had ~500 XP? Now I'm curious if that will actually move as I make bread...

i dont think you can get XP from that. I think its from events. Like giving bones at work ,training at the house, or having a baby. but i cant say for sure since mine has never moves past 475

JUST found out our problem! Your experience says something like "475 / 1100" right? Okay, look right of that - you see all your stats that you can "level up"? Up above those stats, really tiny, is a number MUCH higher than 475 - those are all the points you've accumulated doing work, meeting people etc! Until you actually ASSIGN those points, your 475 won't go up - 475 is just a "placeholder" of how many EXP you've already spent - it seems a bit backwards I know, but as you SPEND points on stats, that 475 will go up, and when it goes over the second number you gain a level and will again read the number of assigned points / next level points.

But your ACTUAL number of stored EXP is really tiny and above your stats (Con, Cha, Bargaining, etc - I didn't even look until I saw your post).

Click on one of your stats to increase it a level - you'll see the tiny printed number of EXP above stats go down, and the 475 / 1100 will go UP!

Don't feel dumb - I had no clue either and wouldn't have looked into it further if you hadn't made this thread (I was "stuck" at about 400 - 500 XP out of 1100 too, first level) - so thank you too!

Also, what I eventually did was download The Guild 2 demo - it has the tutorial - I did a search for The Guild 2, their homepage came up and there are still active links under downloads. It doesn't cover everything but it took me from lost to "I feel strangely compelled to keep playing this game."
