I don't know if this will ever make its way to GOG (probably not but who knows..), but it should work for all versions of the Game, including the GOG release.

The devs said that they also plan to release a v4.21 some time after Christmas, since apparently not all planned fixes made it into this one. Enjoy and merry Christmas!

Actually they said the team will regroup and work on it in 2015. So that could be any time at this point.

Pretty great they made this though.

Not being able to use this patch is bad news. I bought The Guild 2: Renaissance specifically because I knew that Nordic was planning a new round of official fixes.

Even though this isn't currently being sold via GOG, I hope someone makes 4.20 (and the upcoming 4.21) patch compatible with the version that was sold here.
I just purchased this on GOG yesterday. Didn't realize that it is incompatible with 4.2....wouldn't have purchased it had I known. Oh well, only $1.49.

edit: doesn't work with the gog version though. This patch is for 4.00 to 4.20. Because we're not on 4.00 it doesn't work.

No no no, this patch absolutely works for this version of the game... GoG is the only place I've gotten this game, I downloaded the patch, ran it, and it definitely works.

Yeah the installation was a little odd. Because the installer auto fills I only needed to click on the GOG games directory. Must have missed it the first time.
edit: why people just took my word for it and didn't try things for themselves is beyond me. Kinda reminds me how everyone blindly follows reviews on games without seeing if their own opinion is different.

Lol true. It's all good but now to kinda erase what I said before: I still prefer the legacy mod to this patch and I suggest everyone try it. People say the legacy mod had it's own bugs but honestly I haven't found any. They fixed everything I could tell that was utterly broken about the game, and left everything I love intact. Sure the game is still difficult to grasp and there are definitely still bugs, but it's actually playable now. The only thing patch 4.2 did was add a tutorial as far as I could tell. Which admittedly is a pretty nice feature ha, but it's still not worth it; optimization is still horrible with god awful framerate/choppy gameplay (I played this game right before I hopped over to a nearly maxed out Far Cry 4 in frustration... I know it is not my computer lol) and the few successful fixes are still not as extensive as Legacy.

Try it out yourselves but I'd still recommend going with the Legacy mod pack!

Well, I'm having the same experience I had with the Pirates expansion which was a great one. The patch did a lot more than add a tutorial by the way.
I've found some killer bugs with the Legacy mod, even though I think it's great.

Presumably it will be updated now that the base game has been updated, so eventually you won't have to choose between them.

Ha I know, however everything they fixed that I cared about legacy fixed first ;) to each his own I still encourage everyone to try both themselves and find what works best for them. The patch just ain't my cup of tea... Especially considering it simply doesn't work with my system after about 30 minutes of gameplay lol.
Can we get this?
Game is still totaly broken. AI management is rather a costly placebo, than working feature.

Have you been playing with 4.21?

I see no changes regarding the problem in the notes, but I try ...

I'm not sure if it's compatible with GOG but I downloaded GamersGate's version which default game version is 4.15 yet the new patch is supposed to patch from 4.0 to 4.20 but it worked anyway, maybe it will with GOG's as well. I haven't played much though.
