I clicked " enable/disable background" in v 1.5 and it went into an infinite loop lua error. Restarting the game I cannot play at all because the error popup stops everything else from happening. I cannot edit the " what happened" line because a new one keeps popping up. I manage to click "send" so it got reported without a description. Clicking "enable/disable backgroun" again stopped the popups but the game is unresponsive even after restarting it. I'm on Windows 10. Please fix.

Could you post a screenshot with the complete Lua text visible, if possible?

No. I tried to capture a screenshot but the rapid refresh of error messages gave nothing else but a blank window. I have contacted the developer and he recommends reinstalling. I am going to try that and see if it works.
I encountered infinite lua error too, when I installed new version over previous one. After a clean install this error was gone.
Linux.
A reinstall has now fixed my problem. I also had an earlier installation. I generally install updates on top of old versions, so I guess that isn't possible here.
I managed to get a screenshot as I am having the same error.

Good job! That was the one that I had too.
I have the same problem. I am willing to reinstall but I want to keep my unlocks: what file do I have to copy so not everything is lost?
I can live with losing the savegames but want to keep my unlocks.

You do not have to copy anything unless you mess with your operation systems home/user/documents/whateveritmaybecalled folder. Savegames and unlocks aren't stored inside the game directory (ToME FAQ).

Your user data folder is in C:/user/[name]/T-engine/4.0/. You can copy that elsewhere.

Are you sure that this message is for me? ;-)

My user data is in $HOME/.t-engine/4.0/tome/

Sorry. It was for Dreadz. Of course if it's not windows then it's the wrong folder.
Thanks for the advice, it worked.
Same. This patch needs a fix.

Which patch? AFAIK there never was a patch for this game on GOG – only full installers.

The original version (from te4.org) has an auto updater.
