No posts since July?

I started almost two weeks ago and I can hardly stop. I have a few minor complaints but overall it's pretty awesome so far. Having a hard time switching from wyrdhunter. Tried zealot and didn't like the barrier loss every turn. Tried necromancer for a very short time and didn't like it.
I guess I'm the only one playing this. Too bad it is quite good. It isn't perfect but it's quite enjoyable to play.

Best part for me is that it has a very laid back turn based pace. I can kick back on the recliner and play with my trackball.
I bought it some time ago and I'm thinking about giving it a go soon. To be honest i bought it without knowing too much about it, it looked awesome and the reviews were great. While it's a roguelike i think permadeath is a thing, or is it optional? What is your opinion, do i need a high frustration tolerance to enjoy it? ;)
Don't worry too much about the permadeath. First battle is impossible to win. I suppose to get you used to dying.

There was a time relatively early on where I wished there was a save option but after playing , I'm kinda glad there isn't.

You will likely die several times while you figure out the strategies and unlock new cards and abilities.

Rough guess I'd say a full run to the finish might take 2 hours. I'd guess less if you play fast.

If you start a new run immediately after dying you can select a bonus for the next run. Extra money, extra health, etc. So you csn look forward to that when you die.
That sounds really good, now i think I'll definitely start this game next. Thanks for the info!
So is the story finished after the first around 2 hours, or is there more to discover if i continue with a second run?
Actually no. Most quests have multiple tie ins that take several runs to complete. I am at almost 100 hours and completed 9 times. I think I still have one quest that isn't quite done.

I would guess that I've probably died 20 or 30 times. A few I made bad decisions and just gave myself up.
Thanks for the info, it sounds great! With the sequel coming soon, i think now is a good time for me playing it :)
I played it quite a lot some time ago. I stopped when I hit a bug where the All-Mother's Altar wouldn't spawn, making it impossible to complete the game. The changelog says that has been fixed, so I might try again.

I found the Wyrdhunter quite hard to play. The Sentinel was the easiest for me, since you can end up with ridiculous amounts of barrier.

It is actually possible, since you can block almost every attack. It just takes a long time. If you win, the goat tells you that you're too good to need any more tutorials and throws you straight into the game proper (I don't even know if there are any more tutorial after the first battle).
I started it yesterday and I'm just 1 or 2 hours in. Atmosphere is great and story is interesting so far. I'm struggling a bit with the game mechanics, i have to admit I'm generally not playing roguelites because it always hurts to lose all the progress you made when losing a fight. I'll give it some extensive attention on the weekend, let's see...

Interesting about the first battle. I'll have to try winning next time I start a new save.

I actually like Wyrd Hunter. Didn't try anything else until I was pretty far along. Sentinel was interesting, especially with the passive for extra round on blocks. Played Berserker once too. Was interesting but kind of a pain keeping below 25% health for extra energy. Kinda defeats the main skill cause you never get hit. Might try again some day and try to stay at full health so I can use the main power skill.

I tried a couple others but couldn't get too far before I got bored. Didn't want to spend the time figuring out the best card combos and unlocking better cards, etc. Maybe some day.

I see weekly is wyrdhunter this week so I think I might be able to finally finish that.

Even a failed run will get you some currency that you can use to upgrade your abilities for future runs. You need to unlock villagers first. You should see yourself progressing farther each time. With maybe a little variance because there is some luck involved in what cards you draw and passives you are offered.

Apparently I'm not very good at this game. I tried the weekly several times with no luck. I think I got past the first area once but was very weak and died early in the second area.

It's tough because it's level 8 but you start with a completely empty city and no quests completed. Can't even buy a potion in the beginning and you don't have your flute.

And if that's not enough, all enemies respawn as a slug when they are killed. And those slugs often attack in the same round they're spawned.
I didn't try the weekly so far, i used the Saturday to dive deeper into the main campaign :)

Like i said before, i like the game's atmosphere, graphic style and story, the combat is fun and i unlocked 3 characters so far that play differently. Nonetheless i decided I'll stop playing it for now. Veterans of roguelike games probably won't understand what I'm saying now, but I find the "losing progress when you die" approach totally not the style i like my games. It's true that there are things you take over to the next round, but to me it becomes highly repetitive doing the same things over and over again. This might especially be true because of the lack of experience i have in roguelikes, though i think I'm using all the information the tutorial gave me while i tried to figure out as much as I could. Not being able to go back to town to heal and being constantly too poor to stack up healing potions is a pity. I'm not sure how you beat the 4 bosses in under 2 hours during your first playthrough, cycloppps, it took me this time to figure out how things worked and to defeat the first boss :)

The game was an interesting experience for me. Like I said, i bought the game mainly because i liked the art style not knowing much more about it, except for the card based combat system that i played once or twice in the past and liked. I had my motivational problems with roguelikes in the past and found out that this didn't change over the years.

Anyways, I'd recommend this game to anyone who likes roguelikes or want to make some experience with this type of genre. The developers created a nice game here.

The two hours is what I'd guess it takes to make it through a run for someone who is familiar with the game. It took my many runs before I made it to the end. Don't remember how many now. I'd guess 20+ hours total from start to my first complete run.

I haven't played it for a while. I'll definitely come back to it at some point. It's not a perfect game but I see major potential in future versions. Including a scenario editor for user made maps with the ability to allow saving, etc would be a big step in the right direction.

I tried walking off a high place and was sent back to where I was previously at!
