for windows7, yes.
Controller support doesn't work properly either. The analog sticks on XInput controllers aren't detected when remapping controls. Between this and the "ERROR" you get if you run the game out of Program Files, this is one of the more half-assed source ports I've seen.

yes, that's exactly the attitude that will help things get fixed in no time, I'm sure.

considering how complicated it is to port these ancient games to modern systems, even the initial public release is very solid, and it does work ok for most people (you would be seeing tons of reports otherwise, not just a couple). problems with a few users using obscure hardware or software are to be expected, and will be fixed sooner or later.
Has anyone has success with running the source port under Wine?
OK, I have tried it in Wine 3.13 (PlayOnLinux) and it works well so far, except that all sound effects are missing. I am getting the music, but no sound effects or voice-overs.
No aspect ratio? Any size changed to widescreen.
I think they should keep the old EE.
This source port is ok, but the new artwork of Shodan sucks.

You can activate the old DOS artwork for faces by going into modifications (before loading/starting your game), going to the mods tab and doubleclicking the DOSfaces mod.

that's great to know, thanks.
Was able to work around needing to install the Windows 7 EVIL UPDATE by using open GL instead. Seems to be working fine for the moment.

Installing into Program Files is not "obscure" in any way. It's the default behavior for basically all applications on Windows. And XInput is the standard controller API for Windows. These aren't unpredictable edge cases, they're the bare minimum you should be testing if you want to advertise yourself as a port for modern operating systems that touts "joystick" support.

If issues always got fixed I'd cut the devs more slack for missing basic bugs like these, but lots of games never get fixed. I'm still waiting for the controller support in The Silver Case to be fixed and that game's developers acknowledged that bug a year ago.

program files is a bad idea, as it has been proven many times in the past, it's a special permissions folder and that can interfere with software functionality.

anyway, the point is, there is enough rude people around, do try to not be one of them. "I'm disappointed" would have been sufficient.

Installing into program files is not a bad idea. That's literally what the folder is there for. The only rule programmers need to follow is to not write files into it. Countless companies get this right. It's not an end user problem.

If day one patches and games being unfixed for years weren't so common I might just be "disappointed". As it is I'm annoyed that I had to waste time working around the "ERROR" error only to find that the reason I bothered to boot up the game, controller support, doesn't work.

I'll give the System Shock guys credit for one thing though, and that's support. So I'm optimistic this will get fixed like you say.
well, I do not care much about the (original) intention, all I see is this:

a regular folder problems = 0
program files problems ≠ 0

that means the conclusion is very clear - don't put stuff in there if you want to avoid problems. anyway yeah, I agree that the 64 char limit bug is a pretty nasty one, but as mentioned, this just happens sometimes, especially if your dev team is small (it is in this case).
This update is great, I've just tried it for 5 minutes and it's awesome in 3D Vision. This is how I'll play it, after I mod it a bit if I can and after I finish other games.

I'm happy that Nightdive Studios provided a DX11 mode for this game, the Turok games and Forsaken (I still have to buy Forsaken, later).
