The workaround doesn't fix my problems with SS1 enhanced. dxdiag sent to support.

And I guess the fisticuffs in this thread won't deliver a solution any faster, so if you've got nothing better to do, please go on. :)

This fixed the crashing issue for me.
Getting crashes when running the game, as well. Running Windows 10 64-bit edition. Randomly crashes when making input during the intro movie, but assuming I get past that, crashes 100% of the time when I start entering my name. Dxdiag log link below:

1drv.ms/1NUBXgQ

(add the HTTP:// bit)

Thought it might be my Logitech gaming software causing an issue, but no dice - closed it, still crashes. Tried changing the resolution in the .ini file, no dice. Tried sacrificing a disbeliever upon the altar of SHODAN, no dice. Tried rolling 3d6, no dice.
Game crashes if I strike any key on my keyboard. If I don't touch the keyboard, I can watch the intro and click any button on the start menu with mouse. But as soon as I try to type my player name the game crashes. It also crashes if I strike any key during the intro movie.

Here is the error message. I'm using Win7 64bits. My keyboard is Ducky Zero. I already tried the previously suggested ini fixes,

Sadly the custom screen resolution workaround did nothing to help me.

EDIT: Thanks to all those trying so hard to make it work though.

Same here.
Here is an in-the-works patch we have.

http://www.saleck.net/ownCloud/index.php/s/OML4Zarbf6AcPBy

What is new:
Possible fix for the crashing on startup some people have been having.
Possible fix for the Free Disk No-Save bug.
Partial Bugfix for a music playback issue when the player dies and goes back to the main menu.

All feedback is appreciated.
Thanks.

Great! Thank you! I'll give it a shot after work tomorrow and report back.
I just tried the fix from Saleck.

It didn't work UNTIL I changed the sshock.ini entry of SoftRenderer to ON. Everything else was the default installed configuration.

This is on Windows 10 x64 (build 10547), ATI Radeon 6970, and Intel i5-4670 CPU, 16GB RAM, SSD.

Tried this in combination with the sshock.ini changes - same results

That did it for me. Very well done. Hopefully future updates wont destroy this for me. Is it used in official future updates? otherwise I would avoid future updates tough.

Test patch did not fix the crashing, but it did change it.

Originally it would start, run for approximately 3 seconds, and then immediately crash with the "System Shock has stopped working" message.

With this test patch, it runs for the same amount of time, but then freezes for 10-15 seconds, after which I get a "System Shock is not responding" freeze message.

So, still crashes, but crashes differently.
try posting that event log.
