When you first star up the game it asks whether or not to enable sounds and even though I selected yes there is no sound.

Also what is that other option that appears when you fist run the game? IRC, DMG and some numbers?

I'm at a same place as you, answers to these questions would be greatly appreciated. This game has been on my "to do"- list for ages.
OMG, I found a way to enable sound! Install the game as an administrator and it should work.

I still don't know what IRQ, DMG and IC are tho but at least I can play. Yay! =)

Like GoddessIsabel said, this may help: http://www.gog.com/forum/syndicate_series/installation_through_run_as_administrator_required
Did you change the sound settings when you first installed. I did, and I the sound didn't work. I reinstalled as administrator, left the sounds on the default setting (sound address to 0220h, IRQ to 7 and DMA to 1) and that corrected the problem.

I cannot get sound to work on a Mac. No music, no intro sound.
I cannot install as admin on a Mac because I am already an admin. That was a PC solution.
I got some install options the first time I launched the game but after deleting I cannot get those options again.

I was having this same issue, but finally found a fix:
While the DOS Box is running, go to File > Reset Game Data. It'll ask for a confirmation and relaunch. This let me go through the initial settings menus like I did the first time. If you leave everything as the default, sound works!
