Hello all,
Not sure if anyone solved this but when I try to start Starflight 1 or 2 from icon it goes through graphic and game menu and then ask:

Place disk with STAR2A.com into any drive and press any key.

When I hit enter or any key it just continues with this message over and over, game won't start!

Please help

Joe

I am also having this problem.
Same here :(

I discovered this was occuring because the file STARA.COM is read-only and DOSBOX wants access. Try right clicking the shortcut to the game, selecting Properties, Then Advanced... and checking Run As Administrator.

YES!!! This did it! I applied the Administrator mode to each of my icons through properties and the advanced button. Now when I run the programs they both work perfect!

By the way, this also worked for both of my WingCommander 1 & 2 programs! Just a heads up! I was getting an expanded memory issue and running them in admin mode fixed the same issue!

Thanks for the solution!

This does not work for me using Windows 7.

I can get Starflight 1 to work, but not Starflight 2.
Is it possible you turned Administrator Mode off by accident? I had to set the mode for Starflight 1, but when I checked Starflight 2 it had already been set. Both games load for me.

I tried it on SF2 and it does this now:

Place disk with
Splshtop.ega into any drive
Press any key to continue

I have the same problem with SF2. Did you ever find a fix for this problem?

Place disk with
Splshtop.ega into any drive
Press any key to continue

Anyone have a fix for this?

A better fix than Administrator rights is to simply remove security from the install. The following instructions should get the game working:

1. Open the install directory (e.g. c:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Starflight 1 and 2)
2. Right click on "Starflight 2" (or "Starflight 1", whichever you're trying to fix)
3. Click "Properties"
4. Uncheck "Read Only"
5. Click on the "Security" tab
6. Click the "Edit" button
7. Click "Add"
8. Type "everyone" and click "Check NameS"
9. "Everyone" should now be underlined. Click "OK"
10. With "Everyone" still selected in the top half of the window, check "Full Control" in the bottom half
11. Click "OK"
12. Click "OK" again
13. Make sure "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" is checked and click "OK"
14. Done.
I did the stuff in Jbanes post. It still doesn't work for me. keeps asking me to put disk with the file SPLSHTOP.EGA. any other ideals. I use windows 7.
Solved. I found a fix.

any hints what this solution might be ? :)
I just installed it in a folder outside of the program files directory (i.e. "C:\GOG.com\Starflight 1 and 2") and made sure that UAC was deactivated. Windows 7 and Vista don't like it sometimes when certain files are put in program files.

Hello. My *solution* to this problem was to uninstall the game, delete the folder which remained after the uninstall, and then reinstall the game. After fixing the "Run as Administrator" issue, upon running the game for the first time, selecting option 1 to let the computer select the correct graphics mode did the trick for me. Graphics appear to be running in EGA. Good luck.
I am running Starflight 2 on a Mac and I am shown the message asking for SPLSHTOP.EGA. Has anyone discovered a solution for this on Mac OS?

thanks
SOLVED

Allowed the system to select default display type rather than manually selecting EGA as I had done for Starflight1
