Can anyone please help solve this issue?

When I tried to start X-Wing yesterday, I received an error that said "Direct Input Keyboard Aquire FAILED," (I'm using a Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite ergo keyboard) and the program would not open. Based on a suggestion I found in the forums here, I updated my joystick's drivers (Logitech Extreme 3D Pro) and updated DirectX, then restarted.

Voila! It worked! After a few hours, I turned my computer off. Today, I try to open X-Wing--which worked the last time--and I'm getting that same error again. I'm running Windows 8.1, for what that's worth. Has anyone solved this yet? Thanks!

Someone on the Tie Fighter board claimed to have been able to fix it by killing a lot of excess background processes:

The problem is solved :). if you have a thrustmaster hotas x joystick, simply uninstall the thrustmaster driver, restart the pc and voilá, the game is working perfectly :D

it's work for me (ASUS K50IJ laptop with Win8.1 x64)
Hi,
I've got this "Direct Input Keyboard Aquire FAILED" issue on my Windows 7 Pro, Alienware M17XR4 with Logitech Extreme 3D Pro stick running GOGs Star Wars - X-Wing (1998)

The game runs till I try going to a mission. It crashes on the transition to the actual in-flight mission I'm trying to play.

Any ideas on getting rid of the Keyboard error and the crashing?

Thanks
