Hey guys,

So this issue may have finally been solved. Basically, some players are not able to join some servers on GameRanger and get the error "Your CD Key is not Authorized for Online Play". Well, you can just change your CD key for the GOG.com version of the game!

I'd like to thank vaalc4r for his instructions, that led to this.

Basically you can enter ANY KEY YOU WANT and it will work. Just download the registry script below for your OS version and change the extension from .txt to a .reg file type. Make sure to first change the CD key into any alphanumeric characters you want before running it.

Enjoy!

64-bit Windows Version

32-bit Windows Version

Edit: There was an error in the registry scripts, but it should be fine now.

So entering any random alphanumeric sequence will work as long as it follows the XXXX-XXX-XXX-XXXX-XXXX format? Or does it need to be an actual SWBF2 key?

I just want to clarify that for my self, and anyone else who may be wondering the same thing.

Thanks

Yes, I myself entered a random series of letters and numbers and it worked perfectly.

I haven't had any issues since I've done this as I'm able to enter any game I want on GameRanger now.

Another reason I can confirm this is because I run a dedicated server and I was not able to join my own game occasionally. This was because my GOG version of the game shared the same CD key hash as other players sometimes. I don't know if this means all GOG versions of the game have the same CD key or not but after changing it manually I have a different CD Key hash and I've been able to join any game I want.

I wonder if GoG could generate a random key every time it installs. It only requires a few lines of code and it's pretty simple to do.
How do I change the file extension?

You just rename it. Or you can open it in notepad > Save As... > Then name it something like cdkey.reg

Best use quotes then: "cdkey.reg". Otherwise it likes to append .txt to it.
i'm trying to play this with my friends, but they're getting this error and the solution is not working. What do i do?

We are using Gameranger.
