I'm supposed to synthesize a cure to a virus, so I put a potential cure into the machine and I put the virus culture into the machine, but I can't make the machine test the cure. A walkthrough says I should use Bones on the machine, but whenever I do, he just says "there's nothing there for a ship's doctor."

On an earlier attempt, he would tell me there was virus residue, no matter which cure I was trying, but now he doesn't interact with the machine at all. Am I missing a hot spot? Is it a bug?

Let's see if we can give you some advice without totally spoiling it for you! :P

First: there are a couple of different machines, which one are you talking about?
At this point, I'm totally happy to have this puzzle spoiled!
I'm talking about the machine into which you can insert a liter of ammonia and a sample of the virus.
You need to use the virus culture in the gas machine in the other room, with the ammonia gases on.
Thanks. For some reason I found this particular puzzle to be very confusing. The first problem is that I thought that using the medical tricorder and using McCoy were the same thing. But they're not -- to use McCoy I have to (naturally enough, I suppose) use McCoy and then click on whatever I want McCoy to interact with.

The final step of using the cure with more ammonia to synthesize a hypo was also pretty bizarre.
This level was very very mean. I didn't enjoy it one bit.

Really? Have you never tried spilling (=using on anything it's not supposed to be used on) the laughing gases you can make with the synthesizer? :D

I never actually thought of that hahah. I'll go try that.
I liked this one too, especially since it was basically a huge reference to wrath of khan.

Interesting. I never finished this game because I was stuck at the same spot. I may have to rebuy the game and try this again.
