It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

In this tutorial I'll explain how to download whole sporecasts via your web browser (I'll be using Firefox, but there are appropriate plugins for Chrome, too).

If anyone doesn't know, sporecasts are collections of Spore content created by users - this might make downloading quality content easier, or downloading content of specific type (for example, aquatic creatures).

Let's start by explaining why exactly you might find the knowledge on how to download sporecasts via the browser useful:
- To save DRM-free Spore content and make it easily retrievable even offline.
- Because this is the only way to immediately download everything in a Sporecast (subscribing to a sporecast will only start to gradually download content from it and there's no "Download all" button in Spore)
- Because this is the only way to download Sporecasts when you have "buddy content only" option selected in the settings (which, in turn, is the only way not to let the game download random creations unless you're logged out)
- Because this is the only way to download Sporecasts with creations using bot parts (if you have them installed unofficially)

With this out of the way, let's get to it. :)

First thing to do is to find a plugin for downloading images from RSS feeds. The one I use is DownThemAll for Firefox, which can be found here: https://addons.mozilla.org/pl/firefox/addon/downthemall/

Once you install it, go to Sporepedia (spore.com) and find a Sporecast you'd like to download, for example "Cool creatures", found under the link: http://www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=ssc-500150002621

It's the link that is of interest to us, or more specifically, the ID number found at the end. Here, this number is 500150002621.

The next step is to open the RSS feed of this Sporecast. This is done by going to the following address: http://www.spore.com/atom/sporecast/XXX
where "XXX" is replaced with the ID number we got earlier. So, in our case we need to visit the link:
http://www.spore.com/atom/sporecast/500150002621

Now it's time to download! The specific method depends on the plugin you use, I'll stick with my DownThemAll.
Right-click somewhere on this wall of text and choose "DownThemAll". Choose the path of the directory where you want to save all creations from the Sporecast, then expand the "Filters" section and make sure only the option with PNG files is selected (it should be the last checkbox). All that's left now is to click the download button and wait until everything is downloaded!

Now you've got the Sporecast in a DRM-free offline version. :) How do you import it to your game? Launch Spore, go to Sporepedia and open the "Recently downloaded" page. Next, minimize the game, go to the folder you downloaded all creations to and select all of them. Finally, drag your selected content to your Spore taskbar, and when the game re-opens, drop it somewhere on the page you opened earlier. Don't worry if the game freezes for a moment, this is because it's importing creations - the more you import, the longer the freeze, but just wait a moment.

That's all! I hope you find this useful, because it took me some time to find out how to do this. :P

Is the effect of adding more content via sporecasts increasing the variety during gameplay?
Ive only played for a abit, but i noticed that after a while, the game was creating duplicates from my cell creations and populating the pool with them.

Yes, it should increase variety.
I recently (re-)uploaded a huge collection of creations I found on the internet.
It has 12K+ of buildings, creatures, etc.
I posted a link in the main Spore release topic but it looks like I can't find my own posts anymore... weird. I'm quite sure I posted a link.
If anyone wants them I could share the link again here. It saves you a lot of downloading.

Your post with Link is in the topic "Spore - DMR Free or CD Keyed &Sporedia? Could EA have changed ???? "
Thanks for sharing, i grabbed it afew days ago.

OT: The game really does look like it gave inspiration to NMS, and i havent had a crash on Spore yet :)
Aah it was in that topic! I couldn't remember haha.

Spore could indeed be an inspiration for NMS.
Bash script alternative to DownThemAll:
curl URL | grep -o '<link rel="enclosure" href="[^"]*png' | grep -o '[^"]*$' | xargs wget -c
the extension you linked seems to have been removed?
Or it's not available in my region, somehow...
This doesn't appear to work anymore?

I've just bought Spore with the offer, I wanted to know If there is any other workaround for this? I am not sure if I should link my Origin account in order to play Spore Online.. honestly I find this "offline" solution a better one from a "privacy" standpoint

Thank you
