Can the roms from SNK's GOG releases be used in Mame, as opposed to within Dot.Emu's ports? (For example, Mame version .214?)

I have The last blade only on gog, the windows version installed via galaxy has no rom in it, but offline installers for mac (and I suspect linux too) does come with a game rom file and bios file.

I'm not that familiar with new versions of mame, but I've downloaded mame 0.215 x64 and tried to launch that rom file, but gave me error of a bunch of missing files in it (e.g. a couple of sp1 files and whole unibios_3 section).

I guess it's not compatible with the newest version, or I made a mistake somewhere as I'm not familiar with these versions. as none of the roms I have on humble or steam works with this version. Just wanted to check that one game out, as I don't have any other here to try. If you have any ideas or want to try something, let me know.

Edit: It works with retroarch, etc and older emulators in general too I guess.
Edit2: Apparently the bios included with the release is older version, so I reckon if you can get a newer bios, then it should work. But I haven't checked out how/where to obtain it.

Also, there's a tracking thread in General, ROM based GOG games compatible with third party emulators thread. Though it doesn't mention which specific Mame versions.

Yea, it won't work with the new mame versions. Already tried that. Unless you repack the roms with newer bios files etc. But out of the box it doesn't work.

The Neo Geo bios keeps getting updated because people keep hacking it, which created mods like the UniBios.
