Noticed that it doesn't have shadows on by default, which I feel takes away from the dark spooky mood somewhat. Any way to re-enable them, or any good mods to put them back in?

just enable shadow in the ingame option

Oh lol, I was looking at the tab with the grapich options and forgot about the third tab with game modifiers where it was. Thanks!

Did it work? The game looks exactly the same whether I have that option on or off.

Yes, but they are rather glitchy compared to ps2 version (try to disable AA if shadows don't enabled for you)
