Just started playing this game tonight and it has been strangely addictive. Anyway, just wondering, in the production screen where you build units and research technologies, the units have different coloured text. Some are red, some are green, some white (and there might be others later on). So what do these different coloured texts mean? I checked the manual but it doesn't seem to explain it.

Red = Conquer
White = Discover
Green = Explore
Yellow = Build

where

Conquer represents military value
Discover represents advance-of-knowledge value
Explore represents colonization value
Build represents infrastructure value

The different colors help to identify the main purpose of techs and facilities. The game also uses these concepts for determining blind research.

Many thanks. Makes sense now. :)
Note the colours are just a guide. The colour itself doesn't affect the functionality.
Okay, little bit of a follow up question. I thought the citizen icons in the base were just the red face for drones, the yellow helmeted faces for workers and then the various different types of talents (doctors, technicians, empaths, etc).

However, I now appear to have some citizen icons that are workers but not wearing the yellow helmet. They look quite scientific but they are workers as they are out collecting resources.

Also, if I decide to collect fewer resources so that some citizens are idling, I get a sort of spiritual looking citizen icon with white light coming out of the head. What is this? It can't be transcends as I've not yet reached that research level, and these are idle citizens, not ones I've set as talents.

So many different citizen icons. What do they all mean?

The citizens consist of talents, workers, drones and specialists. (Not sure if they are all the correct names) They appear in that order from left to right on the base/city screen.

The drones are red. Yellow are regular workers and whitish are talents. All 3 of these types of workers are working the land and giving you resources appropriately.

You need to have more talents than drones or the drones will riot and nobody will work.

The specialists are different colours depending on their specialty, and are people like librarians, engineers, doctors, empaths etc. These workers don't work the land but do special jobs. For example, librarians give +3 labs.

The spiritual looking citizen you described sounds like an empath - one of the specialists. They give +2 economy and +2 psych, which helps turn drones into workers so they don't riot.
