Hi

Just wonder if there is anyway to mod the cost (in energy not turns) for terraforming up and down.

I wanted to try to run a one city challange, keep myself at my side and wage war through terraforming.

However I noticed that trying to sink a city by just lowering the land is insanly expensive, so that got borring.

I can find everything but cost in 'alphax.txt', although it may be hidden somewhere in there or a different file.

Sorry, I should have written that I had checked the alphax.txt and not found anything.

For sure it gets expensive :D

As you not only lower ONE tile, but depending on how much you already did and how deep....

no let's start the other way round:

First:

X

afterwards

OOO
OXO
OOO

Next one

DDDDD
DOOOD
DOXOD
DOOOD
DDDDD

X being the place were you use the terraforming. O the once which will be affected directly, D the next outer ring and this goes on forever (kind of). So yes, it will become expensive :D

And I think the cost is hardcoded. And I think the formula behind this is also a bit off, it is cheaper IIRC do have multiple units doing this all over the place instead of doing it in just ONE place. (IIRC they used a function like X^Y and not X*Y)

So the answer is more or less no. Sigh well it was fun for a moment.

As I said, maybe not clearly enough ;)

Use like 5 farmers in 5 different places to do the job, instead of 5 farmers in ONE spot. Also avoid overlapping while lowering, otherwise you pay twice!
EDIT: As indicated by those figures, try to use ONLY the afterwards option
