I had some problems installing Alien Crossfire on Windows 7 (64), so I bought the software from Gog. I played for a bit and ended up saving 2 files. Went back to play today and when loading saved game file I get Error Reading File and underneath C:\GOG Games\ Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri\ saves\ Zakharov of the University, 2139.SAV. Never happened to me and I have hundreds of hours playing this game in the past. Does anyone have a reason that this has happened?

I have had this problem a few times now, too. You can get pretty far into the game, at least far enough to just get air power or map most of a huge planet... But I don't think I have ever been able to completely finish a Crossfire game yet due to this error. Regular Alpha Centauri does not seem to have the same problem.

I have not been running it as admin and I will try that in the future. Out of the box this is a nagging failure, though.
Well on my current Win 10, it does seem to load games again with run as admin (this is one that wasn't loading properly before). So that much is good.

What a strange error, though!

Make sure to run as admin in compatibility mode as this gets rid of loads of bugs caused by windows 7 not being windows 98.

A few games on GOG are fixed more easily by compatibility mode/run as admin than fixing the game itself.
