kyrub: The SMAX Unofficial patch PLUS includes latest Scient's Unofficial patch for SMAX (see http://www.civgaming.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7511) and it adds several bug fixes on top (see release notes below).

Download: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mqtn47cmj73c0gb

I finally found some time and ported a few fixes (from my previous work on SMAC) to SMAX, as I promised.
The highlight is the fixing of the infamous energy stockpile bug and of the children creche (and brood pit) combat bonus bug. I decided to include the better terraforming algorithm from smac patch as well. The old terraforming is not exactly a bug per se, but the AI behaves so stupidly, that I simply felt obliged to do the hard work of transmitting a whole part of the code in SMAX as well.

The patch could not be tested (I have not a working copy of SMAX on my hard drive), but it should work allright. Still, a backup of your data is recommended. Unzip the patch into your SMAX directory, overwrite - and enjoy.

------
release notes

version a
- unit limit, changed by scient, is back (crashed the game)
- automatic energy stockpiling bug is fixed
- swapbase bug, which made the AI swap bases in a ridiculously bad deals
- AI basic terraforming (and automated basic terraforming) completely rebuilt, should be more competent
- children creche, brood pit combat bonuses now work like they should
Forgive my confusion, but is this just fixes (apart from the terraforming AI change), or does it include the AI tweaks?
You may not get a response, I do not think that that Kyrub has been heard from in some time, except perhaps as working in some other game. He also makes patches for master of magic, master of orion. I do not think that the port to the expansion includes all the AI tweaks, because the coding of the expansion is somewhat different and does not include all the AI functions, and because kyrub plays the original. Scient tries to do some things but I get the impression he is not as good a programmer.
high rated
New test version of the patch (SMAC 444 l), that includes much better AI social engineering choices.
This is SMAC exlusive, if it works, it will be ported to SMAX as well.

The highlight of the patch is the correction of the support / police mismatch in the original game.
Also the morale setting is now less valued by the AI. The improvement should be visible.

I included a few important and obvious corrections to the previous SMAC 444 patch, we should see less probes again, less sea transports etc.

b tech_beelines
c AI hurrying
d close base and fungus love from 70
e unit_abilities_8

Nice work bro. I played a game with this version earlier and it seems to work well. A SMAX version would be good too; I'm not a fan of the new factions, but like the other stuff it adds.

I decide to put away my dislike for SMAX for the sake of the game. The SMAX version is a matter of time.

Doesn't SMAX lacks some of the AI functions that SMAC has?

SMAX does have all SMAC has, but it lacks the AI for its new features.

It seems SMAX lacks faction specific AI (which SMAC has). This is horrible when it comes to new faction features - I heard - like the aquatic one (seems to produce very few formers), both alien ones. As far as I know, the new buildings have also non-existent AI (other than the interest - numbers in alpha.txt).

This could be improved upon. Especially Nautilus could become a powerhouse in AI's hands, in my opinion.
Giving it a shot. Not the most recent one, unfortunately, as I'm getting into SMAX (play it with the original factions and it's great; just some fun new facilities, projects, and concepts to mess around with).

Just keep in mind you are not having 90% of AI improvements with SMAX+ patch. Just the "basic terraforming lesson".

I bought AlphaCentauri on gog to Play SMAX, which I never played before, but when I saw your AI focused patch I decided to play SMAC again. And, I am impressed! The AI holds up much better now and uses a lot of unit options succesfully. However, I think the AI is a bit to fast on declaring war, especially in situations when it does not have the military to bring the fight to you. And, it should invest more in infrastructure in its bases.

Lacks faction specific AI? Does this apply only to the new factions or also to the old factions (if used in SMAX)?

Seems that word on Yitzi's SMAX patch (which includes two of the ones discussed in this thread before [kyrub's & scient's] plus adding more stuff, especially modding options) hasn't spread over to GOG yet...

Would be great if there was some kind of fixed thread outlining the overall changes Yitzi's does.

As it stands every thread just states "Fixed stuff" and seems to assume everyone already knows everything to do about it... and with each minor hotfix having it's own thread, it's far too time consuming to go through all those different threads and check multiple pages in each for the little snippets they'll post when actually asked.

That does not seem to be up to date. It states the latest version is 2.3 but latest version actually is (remember to put the base 2.4 version first as, for what ever reason, the intermediate updates do not contain all the files needed (only the executable)) so I'd assume any changes made by 2.3b, 2.3c, 2.3d, 2.3e, 2.4, 2.4b and 2.4c are missing from that list.
