Update

Support added for Shelter 2
(including Mountains DLC and Paws stand-alone)
Update

Shelter

New supported installer:
setup_shelter_1.0_(18565).exe

Saved games for are now stored in $XDG_DATA_HOME (defaults to ~/.local/share/games/shelter/profiles) instead of being kept in WINE prefix. This will only take effect on new installations, or after manual removal of the WINE prefix.
/!\ Manual removal of the WINE prefix will delete your current saved games! Remember to back them up first. Saved games from old installations can be found in ~/.local/share/play.it/prefixes/shelter/drive_c/users/$(whoami)/Application Data/Might and Delight/Shelter where "$(whoami)" is your user name.
Which Innoextract version is needed here?
I've got the following error:

Error: Available innoextract version is too old to extract data from the following archive: setup_shelter_1.0_(18565).exe

It seems that I've got Innoextract 1.5 installed.

I think for this one you need innoextract 1.6.
If you’re using Debian 8 or Ubuntu 16.04, I’ve built innoextract 1.6 packages for these distributions:

OK, the game has been installed properly. I had some issues before, but it's on my side.
However - I'm facing exactly the same issue I had before with my own installation. There is only white background, no graphics, and something is wrong with menu layer. The same issue some people reported on WineHQ as far as I remember...

Hello, I had the same issue and installing wine-staging fixed everything.
I believe it is a video driver problem (I have a Nvidia GPU), but I don't know more than that.

You can find instructions to install wine-staging on Ubuntu here : https://wine-staging.com/installation.html#distro_ubuntu
Like Mopii wrote, this issue seems to be specific to the non-free nvidia driver, that’s why the package built by ./play.it has no hard dependency on WINE staging (it would just annoy users of AMD or Intel GPU for no good reason).
On the other hand, we should add a warning about this on the instructions page. I’m going to take care of this.

But, well, you know, I have Intel GPU on board...

Interesting, it means this might not be GPU-related after all…
Still, is the game working better for you using WINE staging?

I've tried a few tricks, but it seems that omitted the most obvious one. But - is Wine Staging still alive? I used that before, but since Wine 3 rollout I cannot see staging versions on the list (I usually juggle Wine versions through PlayOnLinux). I heard Staging is no longer maintained (or not fully maintained at least).

If it's still there, I'll try as soon as I get to my computer.

WINE staging is still well and alive, after a short hiatus that did not last more than a couple weeks.

The issue here is with PlayOnLinux, that is on some kind of transition phase towards a new version, the current version being less well maintained than it had been.
I’m not sure you can use the current version of PlayOnLinux to get the latest WINE staging version.
Update

Shelter

Work around some graphics corruption bug.
The game now depends on WINE staging and winetricks.

vv221: snip
Since I had that weird graphics issue as well via Play on Linux, I tried this script now.

Ok, after updating a bunch of libs and finally having been able to install current innoextract, I installed both of the debs the script made.

It seems to have gone without errors, but now the big questions are:
Where is it? How can I start it?

There is no indication where it was installed, how to run it now and I can't see any link either.

It should be found where your desktop environment puts the games you install from your distribution repositories. If you have an applications menu with some kind of "games" section in it, games installed through ./play.it should be found there.

Just in case you don’t use any kind of applications menu, here are the commands to run each game:
Shelter ⇒ shelter
Shelter 2 (with or without Mountains DLC) ⇒ shelter-2
Paws ⇒ shelter-2-paws
