A possibility. Could be that your latency is something they don't want to deal with, could be that they're expecting people they know to join the game vs. those that they don't. If you can successfully join and stay in a game at some point then you can rule out it being a bug.

The answer is actually pretty simple.

the current invite system is pretty buggy and doesn't work half the time and has connection issues so the only way people can play without connection issues is by making their game public and then telling your friends to join.

you are simply being kicked because there's no way to add a password.

The only fix I have managed to find for the invite bug that me and my friends keep getting is to spam the living shit out of the invite button when you invite your friend and hopefully out of the hundred invites one of them works.

It's not buggy, the invited person just needs to make sure their game is not started before they click to join from GOG.
