From what I can tell, it looks like SWOS via MACOS or DOS does not support any form of usb connected gamepad (which is a massive shame if true).

Anyone had any luck so far?

Here's hoping I'm wrong.
Hi Krankor,

I was having the same question. So I linked up my USB Competition Pro to my Mac and tried it out. Unfortunately this does not work.

Very very sad...the game is running smoothly and the speed is perfect. But where is the fun without a gamepad or stick.
You will use Joytokey for this :)
Had a look for Joytokey, but no MACOS version is available.
However, I found an alternative called 'Enjoy' here: http://abstractable.net/enjoy/

Tried it with a wired Xbox 360 controller (after also adding the required drivers) and it works perfectly!

Driver is here:

Thanks Chaps!
Thanks for that confirmation. I loved this game on my Amiga and it needs a pad/joystick!

I installed the driver and Enjoy but I am having trouble setting the correct Axis in Enjoy to be my up, down, left, right.

What did you do to set up your keys?
Also, what version osx are you running?

Hi, My Os is 10.8.2.

I do remember having some issues mapping the the digital pad of the 360 controller. Unfortunately I have no real words of wisdom here, other than I mapped each digital direction one by one and saved as a profile. It's fiddly to achieve as often or not each direction I pressed resulted in an incorrect direction, but I got there in the end :(

I don't believe the analogue controllers work at all (if that's what your trying to do). Not even sure if SWOS would even recognise analogue directional controls.

Not the greatest of help I know, but you should be able to sort the digital directions in order to play, with a bit of faffin' around!

Cheers!
I think problem is this game made work with old gameport joysticks . Don't support USB joysticks .
Well i can use Joytokey to play singleplayer no problem. But when i wanna play multiplayer that wont work unless there is a way to controll both players with the keyboard. Unless the controller setup dont detect my usb-controller the problem remains...
I have found a way to use your gamepad on the Mac version.

Display the content of Sensible app, then go to Resources and launch Sensible World Of Soccer 96-97.boxer. Then use configure, setup your gamepad and save.

Here you go, you can play with your gamepad on the mac version.

Hi there. I have opened the Sensible World Of Soccer 96-97.boxer file. I am now in terminal. What do I do now ?

Hi,

As a default SWOS is set up to keyboard mode. Go to your Windoes start menu, then GOG, then Sensible Soccer 1996-97, and choose settings. There you choose configuration and joystick plus keyboard 2 player mode. After calibrating your joystick/joypad it works (while you're at it also switch sound to Sound Blaster 16 and music to General Midi). However (!!!), do not try two joysticks/joypads because although you may be able to calibrate both the game crashes as soon as you dare to touch your second one.

To get round this problem you might want to have a look at http://playaveli.swos-united.org/swospp-1.4.zip - SWOS++ is an unofficial patch for the English (!!!) version of SWOS. Quite simply unpack the files to your SWOS++ directoy, and rename English.exe SWS.exe. Now run DosBox, go to your SWOS directory, run patchit.com and after the patching has been successful rename SWS.exe back to English.exe. Now you can play SWOS with 2 USB joysticks/gamepads. Simply calibrate them via the menu item SWOS++ in the game.

(When SWOS starts, press return when it says that this version of Windows apparently is not supported.)

Should SWOS still not work with your joystick/joypad configuration, run a separate copy of DosBox and see whether it recognises your joystick/joypad configuration at all.

Hope this helps. Unfortunately I do not have a MacOS computer to check whether SWOS++ also works on the Mac (alright, am a bit concerned about the this version of Windows is not supported message, so I hope it does).

Cheers

I've used: Joystick mapper - You can find it on the app store (Sorry it wont let me post any links)

I have MacOS and I am using a xbox controller with wireless USB adapter.
Don't waste your time:

(Mac OSX version which includes USB joystick support!)

Or try Amiga SWOS on MAC:
