There's nothing in the manual, or the quick guide, or the wiki about how combos work. I'm just starting the game. Can someone help me out? What are combos and how do you use them?

Combos let you use multiple combat arts together. You can put buffs to chain together or combine something like the multiple shot Wood Elf combat art with Penetrating Arrow. This would allow all multiple shots to be also Penetrating Arrows.

Ok thank you. So how do you set them up? I've tried dragging the combo arts icons onto combo icons but they just replace one another.

I do believe setting up which combat arts in a combo is done with the C key. You should be able to place the desired Combat Arts into the combo.
Don't you have to visit a combo master (the wizard-looking shopkeeper)? I don't think you can just do it yourself like in Sacred 2.

True, you do indeed have to visit the combo master to set up a combo.

Thanks to all.
I know about the F1-F6 keys for combat arts, but does anyone know if there are hotkeys for combos?

Or is the only way to activate combos to click on them using the mouse?

Combos works exactly like combat arts. After creating them you place their icon on one of the five combat art holds. Then you can use 1-5 to switch between those and activate with right mouse button.

6 to 0. Keys 1 to 5 are used to switch weapon sets. :)

For me it switches weapon sets with the F1-F5 keys though I have the original DVD release with the expansion not the digital. At least in that case 1-5 for combat arts and F1-F5 for weapons is the default binding.

Hey, thanks!

Now I just have to unlearn my bad habits so I can use all the combos and CAs more effectively.

The game luckily very flexible so maybe you not have to forget everything and learn all new things. When you create the character you can set if you want faster cooldown that drain all combat arts, or slower but the differet aspects are on separate cooldown. It is fun messing around with builds. :)
