lkharter: I'm on the main deck, having finally solved 3 fates. The watch/book only operates on Abigail. When I start the action the lines throughout the deck turn all squiggly and the "e" and "tab" buttons no longer respond. I've tried to sync the game with the GOG/verify button... still no luck. I realize this game is supposed to be challenging, but c'mon. I've navigated up and down thie deck 3X, tried to highlight every victim. At some point I may have to surrender. BTW, I'm 70 and have no business trying to even play, so be kind in your responses. thanks. If it's releveant, at the opening shot, the watch is trembling in my hand, where heretofore it had been stable.
For completeness' sake I will start with some instructions you might have performed already:
When you are in the present go to Abigail's corpse. Click the left mouse button while standing near her. This will bring you to the moment she died. After you have looked around the deck and the song stopped playing, the screen fades away and the 2 pages that detail her death are filled in. After you close the book is when your hand starts trembling while clasping the pocket watch. Pressing the left mouse button now will cause the entire screen to go black with objects being only outlined in white (giving those squiggly lines I think you are referring to). You should hear loud gongs as well. If you now look around the deck, you will see a new corpse of a person that was already dead the moment Abigail died. This corspe is the only thing that is not completely black. Walk up to it and you will automatically take out the pocketwatch. Press the left mouse button once again. You will now return to the present, standing in front of Abigail's corpse. Now a flame is emanating from your pocket watch. If you press the left mouse button again the flame will release from the pocket watch. Now you can follow the flame. Follow it and keep looking at it closely. Do not lose track of it. Eventually the flame will lead you to the place where you found the new corpse in Abigail's memory. Once the new corpse appears on the deck in the present, you can press the left mouse button once again when standing next to the corpse to now enter this person's memory and see how they died. If you want to return to Abigail's memory, just walk back to her corpse and click on her. If you want to continue the story, enter the memory of the new corpse.
Note: from now on most memories will have another corpse in it that will similarly take away control (certain button not working for a moment as you described). Just follow the instructions above every time to progress. I genuinely believe this game is worth everyone's time, so if you are still stuck I recommend looking up a guide online. Be wary for spoilers online, though. Hopefully I have been helpful.
