The drilling vehicle crashes a LOT, out of a total of about just 2 minutes worth of using it, it has crashed to desktop twice already. Some of the background sounds seem stuck at earspiltting volume levels too.... I have to reduce the audio levels to almost zero to compensate - making the other sounds that are not stuck at 180dB inaudible!

Am I right in thinking that this is the first game you are playing?
If so, have you tried using the PureFaction unofficial patch?

Don't really see the relevance of this, but no it isn't the first GOG game I've bought

Yes, I had no choice but to use PF, RF1 would not even run as downloaded from GOG

It's all the vehicles in general in the game - they all seem to cause crash issues whenever one is around somewhere. In game area where there are no vehicles, there are no crashes!

You misunderstood. I didn't mean the first game you've bought from GOG, I meant the first game in the Red Faction series. GOG has both Red Faction 1 and Red Faction 2, so I was just trying to confirm which one you were playing. Now I know you are using Pure Faction I know it is the first game.

Anyway, provided you are using Pure Faction 3.0c (the latest version as far as I know), then the only bug fix I'm aware of is limiting the framerate as high framerate can cause the submarine to explode on contact with water, which I can only imagine is suggesting that a high framerate increases collision force. No idea if this would fix the drilling vehicle crashes but you can give it a try, anyway. To limit the framerate, use the console to enter the command r_maxfps. Set it to about 50. Also, you can turn off fast animations, too, as they seem to be a simplified set of animations that helped the game play better back at the time, but it isn't needed on more modern machines.

Other than this, I'm not aware of any other Pure Faction problems. I played through it fully last year, but that was before it came to GOG.
I was fine with the submarine - in fact thats the only ingame vehicle that hasn't seemed to have a crashing bug.

The worst is the drilling vehicle - that crashes almost every time Im driving it.
Also the fighter and the jeep vehicle have caused crashes by merely entering the area they are in - presumably this is a crash when the vehicle object is spawning into the game.

Luckily they are not permanent crashes (ie happen every single time). Except the drilling vehicle - that crashes every time whilst I'm using it to burrow through walls!
If I try again next time it's ok - so the game is not getting totally stopped!
