There are two things you need to do, depending on the RB version you have.

GOG version (of course, why would you be at these forums :) ):

1. need to replace baronmmp.exe with this one: http://cid-e196374a237958b4.office.live.com/self.aspx/RBFILES/Baronmmpexe.rar

The reason is GOG modified baronmmp.exe so it would not ask for a CD. Problem is most servers have security running and consider the GOG version as being hacked. The version posted in the link is just baronmmp.exe patched to the latest patch. Now, with this version, you will be asked for the missing CD, click on the upper right cross six times and the game will play.

2. Open up the mplayer.ini file in Notepad. Under the heading [KNOWNSERVERS] delete all of the servers listed, none of them exist.

Under [METASERVERS] replace what is listed there with just

Server=TCP:216.18.240.30:6001 ; Redux
Server=TCP:rlgb.xs4all.nl:6001 ;Rens

At the moment of this writting, there are 18 servers running, though all are empty. Evenings in the USA is the best time to find folk flying.

Hi OldAviator

This is what my mplayer.ini looks like, maybe this will help some.

I too am trying to get involved in online RB games.I have followed Wail's post verbatium however,everytime I click "connect" on the multiplayer menu nothing happens;after a short wait I go to the task manager and it states "Red Baron3D Multiplayer not responding".Since I've installed Wail's patch and re-written the mplayer .ini file I'm not sure what is amiss.Any idea's on how to get up and running in multiplayer?

Hmmm,

Just ideas:

You are connected to the internet?

The game has access through your firewall? (My firewall always asks me the first time I use a program that wants to access the internet.)

What OS are you using? You may need to set up a compatibility mode under properties.

Does Single Player have any problems, or does it work just fine and dandy.

http://redbaronplayers.net/ has the same patch as mine with a few minor additions (an Win XP sound fix), might want to try it in case mine has become corrupt for some reason;

Final question, did you over-write the original baronmmp.exe?, if not, does it work, at least lets you try to connect?
Also sometimes, even with my fast internet connection, it takes a long time to get through to the servers. So, give it like literally 5 minutes or more before giving up.

If there is a long pause, it usually means one of the META servers is down.

JUST DID a test, I put false META servers in my mplayer.ini, It caused the pause I expected (45 seconds or so, yours may be longer or shorter) but I had Task Manager open and the game did show the Not Responding message for part of it.

It was the Not Responding part that had made me go Hmmm, but now it looks like the problem Loxrana is having has to do with the mplayer.ini file.

I would suggest that Loxrana should replace the contents of the mplayer.ini file in with what Stanski57 gave

And if it fails, or no servers show after the wait, then the problem might lie in a firewall blocking or some such.
This is stretching the topic, but does anyone multi-play on remote LANs such as Hamachi (hope I spelled that right)? It seems easier then trying to find a server and the download is free. I looked into this for another MP game who's servers were all gone whose players went to this method. I can't do it - it requires broadband and is not really compatible with satellite I-net (not always broadband plus the bandwidth limits and signal delay due to travel time from ground to satellite to ground can be a lot make it problematic) that I have but has worked well for people with more normal set ups then I have.

Yeah 5 minutes may have been a huge exaggeration - but it certainly felt like it took awhile and I definitely got the Not responding message both in WIn 7 and Wine in OSX when it was trying to find servers.

I think it might have actually been the Redux servers, because it doesn't hang all the time, but when it does, not all the Redux games appear - only the beta locked server appears, but I won't see the joinable Redux games (though I'll admit that could be my memory playing tricks, the next time it freezes before finally going through I'll double check and take a screenshot).

Well, until last night, I never had checked Task Manager while trying to connect with RB3D. And for me, I received the Not Responding message last night when I tried to connect to fictitious servers, but once it decided that there were no servers, the Not Responding message changed to Running and I was greeted with a blank server list.

Talking this over with CamelJockey last night (he runs the Redux game and Meta servers), he mentioned that he has to reboot the Meta about every 24 hours else it stops responding.

I may have just been unlucky then.
