Hello. I am really interested in getting Red baron 3d.

But I have a nagging question

How can I improve graphics and stability for windows vista?
What are good mods?
Are any developers still working on updates to the game?

My specs are:

ATI radeon 3100 integrated graphics card
2 gigs of ram
AMD X2 dual core clocked at 2.1 GHZ
Windows vista

Thank you for your help :)

There are still sites out there for RB3D

The easiest Mod to use for both SP and MP is Hells Angels
http://www.hellsangels.firstflare.com/

Another site for mods, but hard to easily find what you are looking for is:
http://www.flybert.net
This site however is chock full of goodies, just requires hunting. I would really recommend the "Capt. Darwin's 2xFlameOut " for some spectacular flaming aircraft.

To get the best look, you need Glide graphics, and the best way to do that is with a wrapper. I have a few hosted here:
https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=E196374A237958B4&id=E196374A237958B4!248

I would suggest trying CJglide2x_02 first. It is the easiest one to use (a single file) with everything preset for very good quality. But since you have ATI card, I would say, use the Open Glide one if CJglide2x_02 doesn't work for you, before trying the DGVooDoos. The DGVoodoo ones are supposedly more atuned for NVIDA cards where Open Glide was designed more for ATI cards, or so i have read.

While Hells Angels offers the OTE terrain (Over the Edge, if I remember right), I prefer Promise Land 2, which i also have hosted at:
https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=E196374A237958B4&id=E196374A237958B4!120
The main file you want is PL2PLv1, pick a rar or zip version. If you want the rivers to be blue instead of muddy, also download PL2_Blue_Rivers_v4, and if you want lights on your aerodrome field, then also get PL2_Dromelights.

There is also a Promised Land 1 terrain graphics, but it has a tendency to crash the game under Vista and Win 7.

GabiLaser created a few starters for RB3D that mod the game. RedBullet gives you the ability to have an ammo counter in multi-player, whereas TViewMP allows you to use Track IR to look around your plane while flying. But the greatest mod he created is ReLoad, which is for single player. Reload, give you a bullet counter, the ability to use Track IR, different engine types, and the ability to set a constant wind speed and direction. I have them here:
https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=E196374A237958B4&id=E196374A237958B4!423

I hope I did not over confuse you there
Wailwulf ... I hear GOG is going to switch from using zeckensack's glide wrapper for those games it put wrappers on to nGlide - have you tried nGlide with Red Baron 3D? Just curious to know how it fares.
Thank You!!! Now I am confident about buying this game :)

When I last downloaded the game, there was no glide wrapper included. As to Zeckensack, looks like it is designed for ATI cards, whereas DGVoodoo seems to be designed for Nvidia cards.

The CJ Glide I use was designed for RB3D and a number of people with both cards like it. But Glide wrappers are fickle and can be ornery and vary just from computer to computer.

If I have tried nGlide, it has been so long cant tell you how it fared. I don't mess heavily setting up RB3D anymore as everything is set in place now. So dealing with Glide and such is a distant memory

Yeah I *think* RB3D still doesn't come with a glide wrapper automatically (as far as I know anyway). nGlide seems to be a (relatively) new glide wrapper and like DGVoodoo it translates calls into DX rather than OpenGL. Apparently has some nice properties. At some point I might try it out and report how it fares.
Hi guys

I tried nGlide with good results, but fps was still better using dgVoodoo1.5 beta2 for me.
The CJ Glide is the best to try if you do not want to mess with settings! worked fine on my ATI 850pro and Nvidia 9800gtx.

Here's two screenshots using OTE terrain with dgVoodoo and one using PL
