Hi all

I try to start Red Baron 3D, I get the intro video, but when it takes me to the main menu (when you hear the good old drum music) it does not respond, stops the music, windows explorer stops working, so I have to choose close program, Explorer restarts and I get a normal error box with no numbers or additional information.

I also tried my old RB3D converted RBII, but I only get just as far (Minus windows explorer error)

Specs:
Newest Windows 7 update (Donno which service pack, I guess the latest one?)
All newest drivers.
Intel Core 2 Quad 3.3ghz
8gb ram
Gainward GeForce 480GTX

Make sure that DirectX9 is complete on your system by installing this:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
(Unpack the content in a separate folder and run dxsetup.exe)
... and try running the game as administrator, by right-clicking the game's shortcut and selecting "Run as an Administrator".

If it still doesn't work, you could try running the game in Glide mode.
For details see here:

There are also infos about Glide wrappers, three posts below.

Thanks for answer!

I have a lot of glide wrappers for RB so I tried them all, but what did the trick for me was running the game in windowed mode, by adding a shortcut to the Baron.exe file, and then added -window to the target (in my case its "J:\Games\Red Baron Pack\Red Baron3D\Baron.exe" -window)
Also found that I could add -window to the target of the shortcut already on the desktop, or add -window to the "Launch Red Baron 3D" shortcut in the Red Baron 3D folder, etc.

My only remaining problem is that setspeed gives the dreaded 103 error, so I`m stuck with a pretty laggy game :(

Have you tried different compatibility modes, yet? Right-click the game'S shortcut, select Properties and set the mode on the Compatibility tab.

Tried all the usual things - compatability to XP/sp2 gets me the intro movie - and then it appcrashes - and I can't find a utility that works in n glide other than resolution -RB 1 works in DOSBOX - but thats NOT the game I was wanting.A little disappointing. I have Red Baron 3D - and it loads from CD and does the same exact thing-and I'm not going to risk screwing up my PC for nostalgic gameplay - I still have a perfect win 98 PC- I just need to get a Belkin switch to go between the 2 PC's I'm really tired of the not - working without going thru HELL downloads-I will be requesting a refund on this purchase and I guess Origin and Steam is it now - at least what I bought from them does work.........

I sent an e-mail earlier today- i'll give them time to contact me-but this still qualifies as going thru HELL to make a program work, By the way - how do I send and what is a "ticket"?? And thanks for the reply !!!!

I got an e-mail from gog- they said my OS (Win 7 ) is not supported in RB 2 - XP is- Vista is- 8 -8.1 is- not 7???? WTF !!!! Of course it's my fault - I didn't check the product page to see if my EXACT system was supported - and there was no remedy of any kind offered-no surprise there ; either . I tend to "vote with my wallet' so I'm out $9.95 - they're out a lot more - if I can't get some sort of relief ..But really-thanks for your help- being new here I don't know the drill........

Ouch, that's a bummer. I haven't thought of that. It's a bit weird, if you ask me, that it runs on Vista and even 8 but not on Win 7.

If you're using a Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate you could use XP Mode to get it running.

I am using 7 Home Edition because I didn't think I'd need more than 16 GB of memory (and still don't) so I guess that's that ........Later !!!
Just did a new install on win7 64 bit and it works fine, but I have the old gog file version 1.0.0.20
So maybe they should offer this for win7 users ? only thing I added was a glide wrapper dgVoodoo 1.5 Beta 2 works best for me!

I also had the psychedelic colors in single play, what works for me is right click desktop, click screen resolution and leave this window open or minimize. Then start the game, should be fine :)

Salute!
