Just ran through 1-4 without issues but when I try to run 5 I error out with a window that says memory exception on top and 0 inside. I have tried patching and looking for work arounds but nothing has helped. When I switch compatibility the game just "stops working" any advice would be appreciated. I am running 64bit Windows 7.
Which compatibility modes have you tried using? Are things like desktop composition also disabled?
Windows 85,98, xp 1-3, hell even vista since I had a vista machine years ago that would run it. I have also tried them with settings turned off and on respectively.
Okay, I haven't come up with anything that would help with this one. Unless there's actually a problem with the computer's memory, the best guess I have is that it isn't coping with 64-bit and/or there's some Win32 or even 16-bit memory support that isn't being provided, although this could just as easily be from the Quicktime component as the game itself.

What resolution are you running in and do you have multiple monitors/SLI/etc enabled? Perhaps turn those off and set your default desktop resolution down to something like 640x480 or 800x600.
Ok, ill give it a shot, thanks for your time.
Just ran into the same problem; turns out the monitor I was trying to play on didn't support the resolution the game wanted, which caused it to immediately crash. Switched to my smaller monitor and I can play, now. :)

Urk. Am I correct in understanding that this means that the game is unplayable on my current laptop? Short of purchasing a new monitor?

I have this problem also, don't know why. just a thought, did you install the Community Codec Patch? Maybe it isn't compatible with Quicktime.
Has anyone found an answer to this? I'm having this problem. Tried all the stuff suggested here to no avail :/
