cbingham: What's really absurd is using the word "criticism" to describe comments made towards that woman. "Criticism" is a mild term for constructively pointing out faults. Comments made towards that woman are known as "threats" or "attacks." That is much worse. In fact, I'm pretty sure rape, slavery, and genocide are all a few of the many things men have threatened to do to her. So, aside from the fact that there's a difference between making threats and acting on them, I can't see where you are coming from.
Such comments from Corey Cole have nothing to do with the quality of his games anyway.
Stig79: No in this case it was actually criticism of her credibility. It was not about attacks or threats she had gotten from the person in question. He had done nothing like that. That is what Cole compared to rape, slavery and genocide.
Of course I agree that threatening her for her views and opinions is way out there and not acceptable in any way. But it still doesn't come close, in any way, to what the nazis did to the jews during WWII.
Except that's
not what he said, if this archive is to be believed. He stated that he looked at the past projects and comments of Jordan Owen and thought the Mr. Owen generally promoted ideas that he found 'as hateful as rape, slavery, genocide, and... well, you get the idea." Mr. Cole's usage of hyperbole in that post isn't what I would have used to describe Mr. Owen's work, but I can understand his disgust with the man after the most cursory of google searches and viewing the trailer for 'The Sarkeesian Effect' (which he namedrops in that post). This wasn't exactly out of nowhere, given that Mr. Cole had been contacted by Mr. Owen about being filmed for a documentary; Cole's vetting process is what resulted in him stumbling across Mr. Owen's previous work and in turn making that post.
Moose-lion: As much as I'd like a new Quest for Glory-like game/series (actually Heroine's Quest and Quest for Infamy somewhat fill the void, albeit lacking the further entries and exporting your Heroine/Villain into new games) I just am not sure this will be it. Don't get me wrong, I was excited when the first Kickstarter went up, but seeing so many, far larger, projects get kickstarted and released in the time the Coles have released two Kickstarters with nothing to show for it?
It makes me sad, because, while the Coles seem like nice people, this is still an example of a badly handled Kickstarter.
Zachski: Uh... they've released two demos and are keeping us updated on their progress.
I'd hardly call that "nothing to show for it".
Cool. As much as I was paranoid when I heard about the new kickstarter, it's nice to know that progress is being made. Looking forward to seeing more of the Cole's work.
