Hi everyone, i dont want to blame Double find for ignoring retail and other dd versions of game, adding Steam exclusive achievements, screwing graphics, for not even implementing version number to this update etc… because now at least i can play with Xbox 360 controller natively, and i would not blame DF because i can do their job myself.

So i spent few days making patch for retail, gog and i theoretically any other versions of game, i also took a freedom to add version number into patch, since previous one was 1.04 this one is 1.05 as it should be (hex edited 4 bytes to fix this).

This is 100% same update as available for steam, all updated files included, i tried to make it look as official as possible, hoping to save DF some time and let them officially adopt unofficial retail patch as official.
Patch was tested by specially trained three-headed monkey with 3 different versions of game in 3 different versions of Windows ^_^. Should work fine if you have UAC disabled or have account with admin rights.

Keep in mind that Steamworks API features disabled, dont expect to see any achievements in retail or gog version… steam isnt GFWL, unfortunately.

There are two version of patch, lite and full.
Lite version includes everything except updated cutscenes (updated it to include level files by default), and its size 17 mb.

I do not consider FMV files as necessary update, despite their size was changed by 1-2 mb, i havent noticed any difference in quality. As for updated level files, i, i mean my three-headed monkey, played with old files and new… and yet again - no difference. However i already updated lite version to include level deltas.

If you ask me why i dont just packed full level and fmv files and messing with delta patching, answer would be simple - thats because these files are really big, 2gb or even more.

Enjoy and post reports about issue with this unofficial retail patch (i mean retail-exclusive issues, and patch installer issue, not issues of game itself that exist in steam version).

P.S. - there are two more unofficial PsychoPatches im going to roll out this week - xbox 360 controller UI patch, and Widescreen fix for prerendered FMV files (which are still rendered as 4:3 hor+ stretched in 16:9 ot 16:10 resolutions) - both would be available for Steam and any other versions of game.

Update:
Finally tested cross-compatibility of delta patch between retail and gog version, fixed patch script and now uploading full version, whic includes delta for FMV files.
In addition to this, i updated Lite patch, not it includes updated levels, and only missing FMVs.
If you already downloaded and installed Lite patch, redownload it and reinstall it to update level files!

I managed to reduce size of patches by using delta technique (it only stores difference between old and new file, not full file, than it writes this difference to old file an turns it into new - sounds simple enough?), full patch is just about 338mb and includes all the difference of 2.5gb data, lite patch is just about 17mb and includes all the difference of 1gb data.

Ok thanks. Any chance of DF will make an official patch for other version beside Steam? Or they should let you and your friend handle the unofficial patch. But i don't know about DF modding policy though.

Judging by lazy and cheap way this latest update was rolled out, there is no chance, well they can just use my patch and give it an official lable anyway.

Judge yourself:

They did not implemented new version number to update (officially it is still 1.04, but i named it 1.05 to avoid mess and make it more clear, and hex edited 4 bytes to reflect this)

They did not wrote any single change note to readme, not even added steam update news with change log, so its still not very clear what changed (i wrote changelog mysefl, based on what is know about this patch).

They did not tested this patch well, Double-Jump gfx glitch is hard to skip (their QA did a bad job), as well as fact, that mouse dont work in game and works only in menues (some people report opposite effect - mouse works in game, but not in menu) and buddy achievement that only registered in real time (not a retroactive, i mean if you load save, where achievement's goal is complete, you will hot have this achievement - pretty shitty implementation, i must say) and more.

Steam icon is missing now, it could be fixed in few clicks, but no fix yet!

Steamplay mac version is lazy "Port", actually not even port, its a cheap trick - Windows version of exe and dlls packed into commercial mod of Wine called Cider (thats actully shit used by many companies to make a cheap Mac version) so game simply wrapped into emulator and this could be done in one day by anyone - i myself did such a Mac "ports" of several Windows games. Now guess how badly it hurts performance and stability of Mac version.

So, judging by these, DF just did cheap, quick and dirty job, not tested it properly and rolled out this mess as is and they are not very motivated to clean this mess out.
The only good thing in this update is 360 controller and Xinput support and semi-working widescreen support , both are also pretty dirty and cheap, so i need to do their job myself

Wow thanks Voodooman, I have the retail 5 cd version and was contemplating buying the Steam version for the update but thanks to you I have saved $10.

I'm curious, does the 1.06 patch fix the double jump lighting glitch?
And if so, are you working on making a GOG 1.06 update?
Oh and when I use the Xbox icon update it says "Don't turn off your Xbox" while saving, otherwise it works perfectly.
